<div class="IPBDescription">VIP</div> Hello guys!

I'm still working on this "maybe never finished" map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's about 40/50% done.. so there is still a lot of works to do....

Why i may not finish it? ... because of HL2 of course! If it comes out before the release of this map (wich will certainly gonna happend (?), there is a lot of "chance" that i lost all my motivation for this old HL1 engine.. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Here is the pics:

Corridor near MS:
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/3791/ns_leia01.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

The Meeting room...(this pic isn't from the final version)
<img src='http://img11.exs.cx/img11/7365/ns020011.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Meeting room, from the ress node:
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/9884/ns_leia03.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Another corridor:
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/3537/ns_leia03a.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

The Offices:
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/375/ns_leia04.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Offices to Sat. Comm.
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/6530/ns_leia05.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Sat. Comm. (the pic isn't very good)
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/844/ns_leia06.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Wich leads to Maintenance:
<img src='http://img54.exs.cx/img54/7633/ns_leia07.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

And that's all!

If you have any comments, they are welcome! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Edit: arg, bad typo for the subtitle..that was WIP instead of VIP..

    VIP? More like VIM, if you get my point. It's very cool! Change the name though, I think steam won't like those dots on the i.

    Awesome. Fantastic.
    Two things.
    That green text looks awful. Lose it.
    Secondly, these corridors look very similar. Make sure that in the end there is enough variety to easily distinguish areas of the map. If at any time, someone can't tell which of two places of the map they are in, you've got more work to do.

    Now THAT is AWSOME.
    Really beautiful. See, people, there is FURNITURE, and you tell me that this is not possible? There is no need for those unneeded holes and stairs, flat surface with one table on it with some papers creates really good atmosphere.
    This is actually a place where humans used to be. Tables, lockers, refrigurators, microwaves, beds, all that stuff just changes the place if you add those things to your maps. Bed can be done by just creating a box and adding a nice texture on it for example, no matter what is the actual quality, it still changes the atmosphere ALOT.
    I just like it. PLEASE finish it and people, please make it official when finished ^^

    See, people just like it, so, I was right. Furniture and more plainer corridors make the place more human-look and really realistic.

    That is really beautiful, i've never seen those textures used like that. The colours are subtle and perfect. I really wish i could map like that. I'm getting that 'discouraged by superior talent' feeling again.

    It looks really good..nice atmosphere

    Although that green location text is indeed the most horrible custom texture since wally was created :|

    Did you borrow the level textures from somewhere. It doesn't quite look NS. Are they doom3 textures?

    I like the <span style='color:green'>green</span> text, but the fonts are the trouble. Try in all caps. Most built in windows fonts aren't very good, but they can do. (Besides, I think there is green light being emitted from those signs? Don't want to change the lighting, you've got it looking pretty good!)

    A size difference instead of lower case letters usually looks better.
    Something like:

    <span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>T</span><span style='font-size:13pt;line-height:100%'>HIS</span>

    style of font wouldn't be bad. Try sans-serif and serif fonts too.

    And btw, HL2 was officially delayed until my exams are done anyway, just so you know. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Edit: Perhaps make the style of the "quarter", "maintenence" and those types of location signs into a similar but smaller design as that big TSA sign in "sat com." It looks nice, from what I can see of it.

    You. Are. My. God.

    This is the best looking map for half-life I have ever seen. I'm talking about every single wip shot, every single mod, every single picture I have ever seen... This just blows it away.

    I <3 you.

    oh dear lord this ROCKS

    How'd you do the papers if I may ask? Are they 1 unit brushes? If so, doesn't that have an adverse effect on the W_Poly, or did you make them into entities?

    Just curious... this map puts many other maps to shame... and makes mine look like... well... something a 5 year old made thru a set of legos 0o'
  • WindelkronWindelkron Join Date: 2002-04-11 Member: 419Members
    just so that theres a little more constructive criticism, I would advise that you put some of the monitors in Sat Comm on the ceiling, rather than on the desks where they are now. Also, maybe put in some of those vertical glass mapping things (I hope you know what I'm talking about, if not I will post image). And more wires.

    Really nice work... looks like a mix of bast and agora, but still it looks very unique and atmospheric... would fit to NS world 100%

    I liek it alot, but my one concern is the corridors and rooms seem cramped which means the Kharra will have the advantage.

    Apparently NS wont be porting over to HL2 any time soon.
    And VHE 4 is alot like VHE 3, just a bump mapping feature, materials editor, and a few little magic things.

    Other than that its pretty much the same.
    Hell, you can port this over to HL2 with no problems.

    Just work on it with an HL2 FGD and hopefully get some materials in there, and get it compiled.
