    yeah, just type this in your explorer toolbar

    edit: and that's for you who wanted the box version so you don't have to download it every reinstall

    Or we just like professional printed CD's <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    What I meant is that this was for those who feared the multi downloads.

    Nice idea.

    But no, it's still not a replacement for actual printed cds. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    this may be true, but in some ways, it may be superior

    (my brother bought CZ, and when he converted it to steam, he still had to DL it through steam to play it through steam, even though he had the nonsteam version installed)
  • VenmochVenmoch Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1093Members
    You shouldn't.

    Steam should go "Oh look its CS:CZ!" and convert it over.

    or 11 CDs =(
    and I lack a dvd burner =(

    Are you comparing to your actual folders, or after compression? Because the compression is pretty nice (HL only holds on 219 MB)

    Steam has been awesome for a while, but people aren't willing to give up the overused catchphrases that make fun of it.
  • ThE_HeRoThE_HeRo Join Date: 2003-01-25 Member: 12723Members
    Wow, nice. Steam impresses me yet again. I'm still glad I bought HL2 via steam.

    I must say, this is a very good idea. Probably the best feature Steam has to offer.

    Yeah, letting us play all of Valve's products and their subsequent mods is most definitely overrated, isn't it DOOM =P

    If the game is so important, wouldn't you have the cd in your drive rather than be staring at it? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Hmmm I found this interesting, you say Steam compresses the selected game right ?
    Well I just checked the .gcf file which has all the necessary components compressed into it is only 271MB for Couter-Strike, yet this Steam backup is 600MB <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It also has to have some other gcf's too... Not that large an amount though :/

    It may automatically expand the thingy to 600MB, the size of a CD... Who knows (=

    it also backed up the HL1 engine and possibly another GCF in there as well

    btw, are the backups specific to your account, or could I, for example, back up my games, then extract them on my new account (when I'll have HL² silver)

    I'd think I should be able as I legally would own two copies, but you never know with Steam <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
