uhh leave battle the second your AP goes to 0 because you still need some health to retreat with as the rines are blasting you away.
a good idea is to pancake in rooms with tall ceilings to make yourself hard to hit.
and use common sense - don't go into a group of marines with shotties or even lmgs...it could lead to death.

Few technical flaws (like inaccurate numbers) with the guide along with spelling/grammar. Otherwise, it is good for an amateur fade guide.

    Few things you left out:

    1. Fullstop - press +use to come to an instant full stop on any piece of surface the fade lands on. This is especially useful for landing on small lights, rafters, wires, and so forth.

    2. On air movement, cancelling blink momentum and customizing blink trajectories through the movement keys. The latter is more advanced, but cancelling is pretty important if you want to get out of a tight situation really fast without wasting a lot of energy.

    3. On blinking, it is important to tap the blink key instead of holding it down. Too many newbies think that holding the attack button for blink somehow makes them go faster. They are all wrong. Three ticks of +attack are enough to get the fade from null to full speed even with a low trajectory angle. Two ticks are enough with 45 degrees. (I define a tick here as an instance of "+attack; wait; -attack".) Tap the attack key, or hold it at most for 1/4 of a second at a time. The only time it is necessary to hold it for more is if you need to change directions instantaneously and even then you're using blink cancellation from air movement for assist.

    4. As of b5, the rules for survival in battle are to conserve energy (have at least 1/5 at all times for a quick exit) and to leave as soon as possible. You don't even have to kill anything or hit anything. Newbies think that just because they are engaging, they have to cause damage. It is good to cause damage, but even pressure from the fade's presence is good. The futher you are from the hive, the more risk of you dying. As a rule of thumb, have armor and energy to spare when you leave the battle scene. Right away, if you have regen, look for the closest safe place to heal up to at least 300hp/50ap - high vents are ideal (but watch out for jetpacks). Otherwise, if you cannot regen, look for gorges or carefuly make your way back to the hive.

    5. Stay alert! About 90% of fades die because their controller is in some kind of stupor. Be conscious and weary of all your actions and all of the risks that you take. Be ready for anything at any point on the map.

I find a very good tactic to keep in mind is to just wait for the attack, if you see a marine(s) just retreat at the first sign of danger.
He'll shoot at you, you'll dart away and regen to full in a sec and he'll be either a few bullets less or in the middle of reloading.

Just probing them like that will usually slowly but surely reduce their killing power eventually, then you move in.

I'm a pretty terrible fade, I get kills but I have way more trouble than I should, and I can't hit a jetpacker for my life (or use a JP), but I find that if I just don't do anything stupid I can always stay alive which is the important thing most of the time.

Like he said just the presence of being a fade is detremental to them, rushing in to take out one or two and running the risk of dying means they might get you and just waltz to their objective worry free.

On the other hand if you keep em locked taking pot shots at you, you can just keep probing till you get your chance, instead of running into every bullet and shell they have you'll get somthing like a LMG and a reloading shotgunner to finish.

Although if they have somone who's good at blocking I can get screwed if he's got buddies, any thoughts on that?

Also very important, is after u blink and fast switch to swipe, dont wait for the fades arms to change to the swipe position, you can still make a swipe without the animation actually playing. A lot of new player dont know this.

... if they have somone who's good at blocking I can get screwed if he's got buddies, any thoughts on that?

You have to think fast enough to avoid the blocker. Don't get into a mindset that you have to escape through the exact center of a 5 foot entrance doorway. You can escape out the left or right edges of that doorway, you can escape by blinking above the blocker, you can escape by faking a left blink and then arc-blinking right around him. If there is an accessible vent in the room, use that since it cannot be blocked. If there is any sort of cover that could let you regenerate or throw off the attack for a second or two, you could also consider using that.

The rule is still to stay alert and not take risks. If you are getting blocked, you took an unnecessary risk by engaging in that area in the first place. Therefore, keep your ears open so you know just how many marines there are, what weapons they have, and know the layout of the area they are moving through so you do not run into trouble if you do choose to engage.

Thanks, I guess i should rename it to Amatuer Fade Guide though, because it seems its not very helpful to anyone who already knows how to use it.
But I hope it helped alot of newer players who are currently whoring in pubs tounge.gif

OMG I played a lot of times and never used any of the tricks. Just recently someone told me to bind lastinv (last used weapon) to mouse button two, so I can now select weapon two as usual, keep 'attack' pressed to blink towards a marine, click the second mouse button when I'm close to him - making the fade switch back to the first weapon -, and hit him to death. That's really no good tactics but better than always searching for the attack/blink keys. Maybe it is even good for newbies to get a feeling for blink/attack/blink combinations because they only need to click one button twice to do it.

THIS IS A VERY HELPFULL GUIDE.

Could someone explain to me how exactly metabolize works? I read the early changelogs and thought of it as a hitbox inversion for one or two seconds. All the damage that is dealt in this time is not substracted from your health, but addded. Now I read that it gives you exactly 20 hp and also affects adrenaline (+25%).
Does it not need a marine to shoot you?
No: If you get 25% adrenaline back, it would never run out from metabolize and thus just be an addition to regeneration
Yes: How comes, it gives you exactly 20 hp? Per bullet? 20 hp when the metabolize is over and you were hit during this time?

Motab gives you 20 hp per use. Furthermore, it gives something along the lines of 10-15% energy- combined with natrual energy regen, it takes about 4 uses to go from 0 to full.

Why did you edit it? That was a bit low. A shame to see a guide that could have helped more people just disappear.

after i got to be an UB34 G043 wink-fix.gif i decided to get good at fade for when my team has 4 gorges and needs a fade. first off does anyone realize the lastinv is in the keyboard mapping section of the options? it is named last used item or something like that i bound mine to "q" just like CS. anywho my biggest prob is i can blink in swipe and blibnk out but when i blink in i get 6 and below FPS making it near impossible to aim or time anything. what i want you uB34 F/\|)3$ to tell me is how to kill a rine who keeps walking left then right then left realy fast when im trying to swipe him?

it may just be as simple as getting a new video card. 6fps is hard to hit anything at.

Acid rocket seems like a wasted ability..

25 damage? And the splash damage is even worse, its like using a lerk's spore...

    Metabolize is Fade's friend.

In NS_ Map, Fade + Carapace + Metabolize = unlim hp smile-fix.gif

erm what was in his guide again?

Yea i agree that acid rocket is crap. I think the fade should have two of those things on his shoulder so he can have dual firepower.

Technically what you do is you intercept or corner him in the approach, instead of trailing behind him. Thats what allows you to kill a loner rather quickly, without major mistakes on his side.

However, if you really have 6 FPS, uh... you might want to try upgrading or fixing whatever technical problem is holding you back. I can imagine that being pretty hard.

Acid is not weapon for annihilating marines but to wear them down (just remember to metabolize time to time). Besides standing in acid rain decreases troops morale and they tend to run away and break qroups.

I use acid rocket only when I am healing or marines have full ha-train.
