<div class="IPBDescription">Medpack replacement</div> All right, I'm back on business. I finally got around formating my computer, and since then 3DSMax began working again.

And here I come out of the blue with my latest creation, an original medpack replacement. It was a two days work and I spent this whole day on my first skin ever. So you can't blame me for trying <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Polycount : 188
The skin is a 256x256 bmp file, that and my lame photoshop skills explain the low quality.
Enjoy!

Nice work, I believe they're low res, because commander tends to spam them. Saving some performance.

Woah, skin seems very oldschool, where did you learn how to skin like that ?
  • TresthTresth Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5602Members, Constellation
I actually didn't learn anywhere, no tuts... I mainly used the dodge and burn tools along with the noise filter and some other things..
I really didn't know what the hell I was doing and so it took me many hours to produce something I was finally happy with.

    Don't ask me!

nice model, definatly gonna give it a shot

but the model size is over twice the size of default healthkit if im not mistaken, wont that suck more fps?
  • TresthTresth Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5602Members, Constellation
Actually.. the default medpack is 194 polies whereas this one is only 188.

    I love the model, great work <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

but that skin takes away from it all, so ill stick with my low-poly meds <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

the skin itself is actually pretty decent, i think it's just how low res the texture is, and how it's stretched when mapped on. Looks great though, after exams i might try and give it a retexture

Aye, I see what you mean. I'd be glad if anyone could reskin it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Nice med pack replacement. Well im going to DL it right now. Make another model! In the end, med-pack spam + game + 188 poly med-pack=not as much lag <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> so in the end were all happy in the end.. Unless you hate low-res models

whats the reason why the original health model is smaller in KB size, than this one, but have more polys? just curious, dunno much about modeling/skinnig.
  • RealmerRealmer Join Date: 2004-03-12 Member: 27296Members
I dislike this one, the thing looks too dirty, and since every medpack dropped is made about three feet above the ground, I would think it would look cleaner. If this gets a new clean skin, then I'd use it.

Polys are more important than texture in FPS, going 512x512 would not impact performance worth talking about... Nice concept, but the texture breaks it for me...

I'd guess bigger .bmp. Can't say for sure but that's my guess.
