Heh, got my nick several years back, when I got the diagnose that I suffer from Tourette Syndrome, so my nick is somehow connected to my personality.
Why the Z and not S? Ok, a long time ago, I used "Syndrome" as nick on IRC (Undernet) but then a bot came along (suprised?) and took it, so I just changed the S to a Z. Since then, it have stayed that way...

I've used various other names in the past, which I generally ditched as soon as I did something stupid or extremely nubbish.

My current name, as anyone who's read the Wheel of Time knows, is a joke. Joe is a really average name, and Asha'man are really rare people. I started using it back when I played Starcraft, and used it on and off until about 2 or 3 years ago, when I started using it full time. I've seen various other people ripping off the WoT for there names, but none with my imagination and vision.

Cronos, King of the Titans and father to Zeus. People keep mistaking or misspelling the name to be Chronos, which is the god of time and one of the Olympian gods, as opposed to being a Titan.

Silly Greeks ran out of names

marce = shortening of "marce registrada", Italian for "registered trademark" (yes, I know, not exactly it's bastardised). Pronounced "mar-ke", although people online (voicecomm) tend to pronounce it "mar-say".

I went through a few stages of nicknames when I first started on teh intarweb.

When I was just a wee little lad, and not particularly world wary, I used "alloranus" (with the second a being an "ah" sound, not an "ai". After a few years or so I realised that my nickname actually contained the word "anus" and decided a change was in order.

I went through the "military rank prefix" phase and called myself Colonel Avana Zachariah Helms. Yeah. So I dropped that quick smart (2 years )

Went looking for a new nickname, thought of a whole pile and deliberated over it for a bit and found that a lot of the ones I liked were generic, and that I wanted to pretty much be able to trade mark my name, so then I thought of marce registrada, which I saw on something of my sister's (she speaks Italian), and adopted it.

Now that I'm much more heavily into latin (gonna do it for my HSC), eventually I'll probably figure out something from that which I like, but it looks like it's marce for the moment.

I was, and still am, mad about Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Discworld's Death was a rather thin, bony tall guy, who carried a scythe and rode a stunning white stallion named Binky.

I liked the sound of Scythe so I stuck with it.

My real life nickname is JD and I used to use that when I first started playing HLDM & TFC 1.5 online.

Although Thursday comes from the day of the week and band, and darkshines72 is a relatively new nickname that I have acquired, simply because my mates think I listen to too much Muse, and they picked out a random song name to call me.

EDIT: Thursday sucked, so Thaldarin. Came from a SC char named Taldarin <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

I was raised in a very very conservative christian home, and my Mom basically shielded me from rock music my whole life. Of course as all kids do I bucked that and went as far as I could listening to the stuff that would **** her off the most. Needless to say after a long time, I finally got my head on straight and some guys from the church I had been avoiding forever showed me some bands that were christian, and did not suck.
Stavesacre was the first band that I actually got into. I've long since moved on, and rarly listen to them, but I love the name, and I remember reading that the band chose the name from a flower that had highly poisonous seeds, thus, meaning "the poisoned seed."
I kinda like that.

I wanted something unique and at the time
I was a huge Perfect Dark player (still am to some extent)
so I used the name of the gun in Perfect Dark that
everyone else (on Multi in my house) seemed to hate.

The DY357-LX was a .357 style gun, but the bullets
had an added twist, they would explode and shatter inside
the opponent. Making every shot fatel.

So there you have it.

Marik should know; he's into the whole "esoteric Star Wars pilot" thing. And sorry, I've got a copy of that book but for Farlander, the X-Wing counterpart to Steele.

Tycho Celchu is a pilot for the Rebel Alliance. He was in an A-Wing in Return of the Jedi; when Lando said "Head back to the surface, and see if you can get a couple of those TIEs to follow you" Tycho said "Roger that, Gold Leader" which was the only time you ever saw more than a vague silhouette of him. Some @*^%#% took TychoCelchu on some forum WAAAAAAAY long ago, and I've used the 3 u's version ever since even though the odds of someone having TychoCelchu are like one in a thousand.

My name is taken from the hilarious screw up Dave Barry made online nearly ten years ago. He posted a supposedly private email to somone, but, due to the sheer power of the internet, everyone on earth except the intended recipient read the message, which contained extremely bad words.

Alternatively, I go by the name Glorfindel. I have always been a LOTR fan, and I used that name once in another forum, and it stuck. Now, I'm more Glorfindel than Mr C.

I first started using Shzar when I joined a TFC community, and decided that I need a single name instead of changing names 1284715 times a month for every game I play (I'm sure you all know people like that). Yeah, Shzar is just (what I think) a better sounding version of Shzam, which conjures thoughts of Captain America and Peter Griffin. The exceptions are in war games, where I go by "The Minstrel Boy", and Battle.net, where my username is Tsara'ath.

Esuna comes from the Final Fantasy series, also the name of my solo electronic music project which has laid dormant for far too long.

Ingame i think i've used something in the region of 400 different names over the past 6 months. I just use a name based on what music i'm listening to, whatever movies i've watched or whatever i've found funny recently. I rarely use esuna (But i have a lot recently, this will change). The main reason behind this is that i play on the same server everyday and pretty much everyone can recognise me no matter what name i use.

For the first year or so of my online existence, CS clans and all, I used the name Black. Needless to say, I started to realize that everyone used that name. By that time, my name was so widespread that it was a fair bit of work to have to get to everyone to tell them my nick was changing, and I didn't want to do that again. But I also didn't want strange numbers or things like that in my name, so I took some random name out of a dictionary and swapped and shuffled numbers over and over untill I got something random and fairly simple to write.

I've long since realized that no one knows how to pronounce my name (say-kt) when reading it, and no one knows how to spell it when I say it, but I really don't want to start over again with a new nick, so I'll just have to accept that fact.

Hmmm....

I've gone through an evolution of nicks online throughout my period online. It started in '96 when I first started playing Diablo on Battle.net as MushBooM. This name stuck for many years, and I still use it in certain communities where I'm known by it. During LAN gaming with friends I started to use various others around the place, including Evil_Elmo, MÆLSTR0M, Anomandaris and Duma.

It's often taken from whatever I'm reading/interested in at the time, but I return to Shockwave time & time again because he was always my favourite character from my favourite series (Transformers) and had many of the qualities I liked in a character. I've been especially pleased that in the Dreamwave Generation One comics he's taken on a more active role, and is even more of a kick-**** character.

Incidentally, bonus points to anyone who can identify where three of those nicks (Anomandaris, Duma & MushBooM) came from, without Googling.
