Why Is It The Top Scorers Are Always The Fades?

I just recently came back to NS after a long sabatical and I've been playing B5. I notice that just about every game I play, there's one or two guys on the alien team that has a majority of the alient kills, usually over 50% for the whole team, and they are always Fades. What gives? I spectated a few games and watched Fade players basically roam the map at will, killing at will and rarely ever threatened with death. There's GOT to be a problem here.....

A skilled fade can take on an infinite number of LONE marines (sometimes pairs).

On public servers, you are guaranteed to find LONE marines.

    That's all there is to it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

No, not really. Fades are the anti-personal unit of the alien team, it makes sense they lead the scoreboards.

Also marine skill is a big factor.

2 HMG+welders are more than enough to take down a fade.

The trick is to try and stall them long enough until you've got the armory advanced, or if your marines are good with a shotty.

Add on the fact that the player that goes fade is generally one of the better players on the alien team to begin with (as far as getting kills while avoiding unnecessary deaths goes).

Fade is the best unit on the alien side, and the best players usually go Fade. Nuff said.

The Onos was DESIGNED to be the super unit, but a skilled fade can do about just as well or better than an Onos. Although I DO like 'etting' people <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> . <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Onos WAS the super unit...way back in 1.04. Now, I think Fades are superior.

Thats because the onos hit box was like the size of a skulk.

onos are the winners in plain raw power, but there also big and slow moving. Since aliens are about being resposive. The fade rules.

Skilled Fade > Onos when it comes to strategic ability. When it comes to laying down the pwnage it's the <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo--> all the way, but the <!--emo&::fade::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/fade.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='fade.gif' /><!--endemo--> is indeed the best all around unit.

Most of the time I join aliens just to fade, 2-3 marines died... maybe 4 and someone says "wow"... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Because the fades are the powerhouses of the game and the game is balanced around them at the moment.

I firmly believe that it's the strength of the fades that forces skulks and onos to be weaker than we'd like them. We can't have an Onos that's head and shoulders above the fade for power because the fade itself has so much power. We can't have a skulk of a reasonable strength because such a thing would be able to become a fade before the marine team had a hope of handling it.

This is of course why I'm in favor of nerfing the fade somehow - so that the other aliens can be beefed again and the marine team isn't totally dominated by it.

if you nerf the fade, then you need to lower its rez cost

The aliens are meant to keep marines from hitting them, for the most part. Fades are best at doing this.

I loved the 2.0x fade. It had the power needed during a match, but they didn't carry the whole team.
Also, I found that the 2.0x onos was quite potent, mainly because the hitboxes afforded it a much higher life expectancy... I just rationalized that it didn't care what was hitting it anywhere but toward the center (where the organs would be assumed to be) <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Fades were easier to solo in 2.0x

Think about it in RTS terms. Fade is the antipersonel unit and has some base breaking capacity. Onos is your dedicated building destroyer and lower-tier unit killer. Lerk is the airforce and harassment unit. Gorge is the builder and skulk is the base unit.

Fade could use a nerfing. Drop the armor to 100 and carapace for 200?

Fades in 2.0 were faster, had smaller hitboxes, they always carried the impression to me of being better than they are now.

Nerf the fade and you kill alien's mid game. Their early game is so weak that this would kill them.

Fades are only really a problem in combat, imo. :/

Yeah, that's why I say combine a fade nerf with a skulk & onos buff.

I agree with lowering the res cost if the fade gets a nerf, and increasing it for the onos if it gets buffed. The res cost has to be balanced with the individual life form.

Forlorn: Perhaps your memories of 2.0 differ from mine. I remember the fade being powerful, yes, but not dominating the alien play style so much.

Part of that is probably because in 3.0 everyone, even the more casual of the pub players, knows that a good fade wins games. It generally takes a little time for clan strategies to trickle down and become ubiquitous in pub play.

I think nerfing the Fade is not the answer. The problem is that Fades are pretty weak if an average player controls them but are invincible in the hands of a pro. This is because of blink. Blink totally removes the marine range advantage and combined with focus its insta kill most of the times. The marines simply can´t deal damage fast enough to a skilled fade before they die. I´ve taken on 2 and more marines many times as Fade and as long as you blink around you will take little to no damage. Just blink in swipe once blink upwards and then dependant of the situation try to get another focus swipe in or escape. With that tactic you can take on an entire marine squad and decimate them one by one. You are simply too fast for them to react accordingly. The only time a good fade dies is if he gets too greedy or gets stuck/blocked. So reducing hp or armor will just make the fade useless to newbies and average players while still be overpowered in the hands of a pro. The solution is to close the gap between pro and casual players by changing blink since its there where the problem lies. Its too fast. Removing/slowing/changing it you could increase health and make the Fade noob friendlier like the onos. And pros won´t be able to slaughter the entire marine team cause they can´t evade enemy fire as easily as now. Still skill would give them an advantage.

Nerfing blink would be pointless. You'd be better off removing it and buffing the fade's speed and giving it the ability to jump high.

Since when do the Fades stand on Top of the Scoreboard <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
At the End of every Round that i play i stand at the first place and i play "only" gorge.

When a Gorge destroys some Rine Structures and build many own then there is no one before him <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

They also could blink without energy. This is no longer possible.

Mmm, as someone waaay up there ^^ said, if you got a dedicated Gorge on your team, he will usually be on top.

But yes, top of the fighters is generally a Fade. This is generally because, aside from the Fade being supposedly the best lifeform, players have longer to play as a Fade in the game. You cannot constantly save up the res for an Onos, but you can for Fades. You can get to Fade earlier on in the game, so can play for the rest of the game as Fade.

You don't really expect a Skulk or Lerk to be at the top of the scoreboard I suppose, unless the Kharaa have just got there **** kicked from an IP rush or something <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> . People ditch the standard lifeforms as soon as possible, usually.

I still think the Onos is the best thing in the game, down to pure hilarity of Marines running away. Yes, they run away from Fades as well, but dammit the Onos is twice as high! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Fades are rather easy to kill if you got a good player with you. One of you lure him out and the other guy blocks his exit. Really easy tbh.

In fact the scoreboard says nothing about how good someone, or the whole team, is.
Its just there to mute people, show names, pings and to see whos dead

Because the fade was overpowered for years there are many players that prefered playing fade for a long time and learned to be good as such, but lately NS became more and more tactical, and not all about hives and fades and killing.
