A Mod Idea That Hasn't Been Done

<div class="IPBDescription">well i think it hasn't any way</div> I got an idea for a mod will require some basic AI for a crowd of people that you would have to shoot past to hit your enemy and have say 32 or more walking around per map would be enough

would it be able to be playable online like (prescripted AI or somthing) or will it just bog down the server bandwith creating a lag fest

i have no idea on modding so i'll throw it in the air and see if any one else might know

Oh, that. I think it's been attempted but failed... can't find website...

It has been attempted before. It was for Unreal, and it was a finalist in the Make Something Unreal contest. Just check out all those mods.

ummmmmmmmmmm i think we need to know a little info about this mod we are talking about here, at least for conversation purposes.

They'd have to pull from the Doom3 engine to have it just perfect. As you know, models have "boxes" around them that determine where bullets hit. Well in Doom3, the "boxes" are the models themselves, so if you shoot inbetween their legs, some bullets will actually miss.

That way you can snipe and like, barely miss the ear of some old lady in order to hit your target. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That's if you want it done right. Wasn't "Hitman" a game about this sort of thing?

Indeed, but I don't think it ever had you firing through crowds of people to hit your target, although I can't say i've played every mission.

I just want to know if it even feasible to create a crowded area for multi-player that is not to much of an bandwidth hog

If you want I will reveal more of the idea later

any way i'm of to get some sleep

Kinda reminds me of my old 'assassins' mod idea where you're only allowed to 'hit' your target or bad things happen... the main idea being that you chase one person and all the time there's another player with your name on their list that you won't know about until it's too late ^^
The target changes with each kill, etc, so on.

Probably would've made the goal to hit every player legitametly. Maybe without dying to keep things interesting =3

Ever see the movie "snipers"? Basically these snipers end up turning on each other. It's sort of freaky more than anything else. That would be an awesome idea for a mod.

Everybody has sniper rifles and camoflauge (you can change your camoflauge outfit to suit the environment each game).

You can buy silencers (most likely the first thing you're going to want to buy).

You'd have chances to buy anti-glare lenses (otherwise, you'd risk the chance to see a flash of light come from your position when in crosshair mode).

You can buy different scopes ranging from 2x to 20x and everything inbetween.

You'd be able to lay on the ground to reduce visibility, and you could crawl this way.

You'd have a knife for a silent kill. You'd also have a whistle button (if for whatever reason you wanted to draw attention).

The trick would be keeping cheaters from exploiting the mod. Measures would have to be made to keep you from upping the brightness too high or changing it to solid polygon rendering making you stick out like a sore thumb.

You'd have to buy all this equipment as you go along. Movement is a hindrance, but if everyone is a sniper, nobody would move. So it is sort of a tricky style of play where people aren't dying left and right. I'd love to see this get implemented.

    Pfft exploiter.

Personally I want to see more innovation. Crowds are cool, but we can take it further than that right?

<span style='color:white'>Split off the discussion about the ship mod, which was derailing things here.</span>

The concept actually sounds nice, if there is an engine that will handle large crowds of people moving around. It could make a nice game to play if you only have two or three people and want a lot of slow paced tactical action. Of course, dying first would be a pain, as then you might have to wait through several minutes of people carefully getting into position before someone finally dies and you get to the next round. (the same problem that plagues CS, but taken to the nth degree)

You really are not unlike a janitor of sorts.

Gem has too many ideas that she steals from real mods. I mean, first she tried to steal zombie panic and now this?!? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Personally, I would actually like to play the hunted, it was great in TFC and I think if you roleplay it would be great in this concept. Bodygaurds would be nice though.

Half-Life 1 uses several hitboxes (one for each area of the body), not just 1 box ala Quake1/2/3. Half-Life 2 has even more hitboxes per model, and is very accurate. I forget where it is but when CS:S came out there was a screenshot or two showing off the hitboxes on the models. So I would say this most definately is possible without needing per-poly hit detection (though in all honesty I'm suprised HL2 doesn't have it. Hell SOF1 had it and that was back in 1999)

pfff... I always come up with the ideas first I just never act on them <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'd had the idea for my survival mod about 4 years ago and the assassin one is somewhere in the 6 year old range. It's just a case of my ideas being so good that other people end up coming up with them too and actually doing them ^~

well the mod idea got the inspiration of Ghost in the Shell but hardly any thing to do with the series if you are wondering

basically the main concept is the crowds of people every where and you take over one of them via "hacking" (the ghost in a shell influence <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Clasic DM style:
your image of the civilian you "hacked" will be displayed globally your opposition(s) willo track you down in the crowds of people looking for you and vice versa

got a few mission based ideas like escape
    and sabotage ect <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

weapons would be 'spy type of weapons' (James bond eat your heart out) you would be able to hide them ( a civilian walking around with an Uzi for example would bring some some attention to the players <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

well that is a quick outline for ya
