If all of the plugins were installed by default, the program would be huge and bloated. Nobody wants all of the plugins, but having them available makes Firefox customizable.

As I started using Adblock, I started thinking of things on a bigger scale. If Firefox blocks the ad from loading, does that mean that the company doesn't get paid for you viewing the ad on their site (in other words, does it track whether or not the ad is actually loaded when the page is visited)? If it does, and if a decent number of people actually start using adblocking stuff, then the internet could be completely changed. Sites that depend on advertisements to stay in business (like Google) would not have any source of income, causing them to go out of business.

Then again, I could be overlooking something really simple, or simply overthinking the situation. Anyway, those are my thoughts. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yes that point has been mentionned before. Personally I never click on ads anyway so I don't feel like I'm contributing to the destruction of the Internet by hiding them.

    Please continue using IE.
    Do not switch to Firefox.

As long as the majority uses IE, virus writers will concentrate their efforts on IE, and other browsers will remain relatively safe.

I have 17 plug-ins, and they are all 100% essential:

<b>mini-IT</b>: Lets you drag & drop tabs to reorder them!
<b>DOM Inspector</b>: You only need this if you're a web developer
<b>IE View</b>: Come across a page that sucks and doesn't work in Firefox? This puts a new item in the bottom of the context menu to open the current url into IE. Pretty handy if you're lazy like me.
<b>FLST</b>: Focus Last Tab Selected. Whenever you close a tab, it goes back to the one you had selected before, whichever that one was.
<b>MozFBRH</b>: I honestly forget what this one does. Something w/ tabbed browsing I think.
<b>Duplicate Tab</b>: Opens a second copy of the same tab.
<b>Flashblock</b>: As mentioned before, this one makes all flash things require you to cilck on them. Wonderful when viewing Gamespy or something. The new version has a whitelist too for sites like weebls.
<b>Tabbrowser Preferences</b>: The most essential tab-related plug-in, this one lets you tweak the behavior of external links and middle clicking and etc.
<b>Things They Left Out</b>: Adds more options w/o tweaking the chrome files.
<b>Undoclosetab</b>: Ever close a tab only to realize you didn't want to? This plug-in opens it back up.
<b>ChromEdit: </b>Nifty tool to quickly edit the chrome files
<b>Show Old Extensions</b>: Displays pre-.9 extensions in the extension viewer. Handy
<b>Tab X</b>: Puts an 'X' on each tab for easy closing.
<b>Disable Targets For Downloads</b>: Don't you hate downloads that open to about:blank, leaving a new window/tab there that's useless? This plug-in strips out the "target" part of a link for files like .xls and .zip and whatever so you don't have this problem.
<b>Web Developer</b>: If you do HTML/PHP/CSS/whatever, you MUST get this. You will love it.
<b>CuteMenus</b>: Adds icons to the menu & context menu
<b>BBCode</b>: Everyone on these forums should have this. It puts a new context menu into all TEXTAREA's that lets you quickly add BBCode. Much better than the usual javascript buttons.

In addition to regular plug-ins, I've customized my userChrome.css to make all my menu's look like Office XP's menus. It looks very slick and I recommend that if you're using the default theme, give it a try:
    <!--QuoteBegin-userChrome.css+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (userChrome.css)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->

    Foxy-Tunes
a must have if you listen to music while browsing. adds a toolbar to your status bar that controls your music player. works with winamp, iTunes, WMP, musicmatch, etc.

I don't even use tabs. I either click the link with mouse 1 and it opens in the window, click the link with shift - mouse 1 and open a new window, ctrl - mouse1 and open a tab, or click with mouse 3 and open in a tab. Then I either use alt-tab to switch, ctrl-tab, or click the start bar on bottom to switch, or click the tab bar to switch, and alt-tab works a lot better... Tabs is just a start bar on top that uses an obnoxious button to put links into. Not to mention tab-switching with ctrl-tab has an asinine way of switching through them that makes no sense at all. 'X'ing out of tabs for some reason seems to close them in a random order.

Talk about an overhyped feature. The only time I use tabs is on my roomates mac because I have no idea how the hell that OS works.

i'm talking about "my compuer" y'know the neat lil' thing that lets you access your harddrives? -_- everytime i click it to open windows it has some kind of mini-seizure and has to restart explorer, closing all open windows *except* firefox.

    whoa, news to me.

anyways, turns out applications work fine, its just windows components that crash when i try to use them, run, search, explorer, IE (not that i use it anyways)

turns out i picked up a ton of spyware/malware when picking up some extensions... makes me feel dirty...

hmm, cleaning up the mess isn't a problem but i dont know if i'll be able to get explorer to work again +_+

    **edit**

DEAR LORD! i can't even open the recycle bin! :O

<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
    I use MOUSE GESTURES!

Ctrl + Mouse3 to open a link in a new tab

Gesture : Up-Left/Up-Right to go to the previous/next tab, respectively.

Gesture : Down-Right to close the current tab, or if there's no other tabs, the window.

    Works very well.

Though it still leaves the buttons being huge.

Chrono, you can change the gestures settings with "all in one gestures" so you can define your own.

i prefer down to be close tab, and up to be open a link in a new background-tab. its really so fast i can hit every link across a news article behind the news article, so that they load and when im finished i can read them each or close them just as fast with a series of downs.

hurrah for firefox, how much do i love thee? let me count the ways.

    1. breaks my computer.
    2. is really really neat.

gah! i can't figure this out, its like a part of the shell is currupted. i cant open any aspect of explorer.exe without it crashing on me.

can anyone suggest anything? i can't get into the control panel to system restore, and restoring from DOS to my last known good configuration just kicks me back to a time when my video card drivers were messed up and i needed to re-install the drivers or be stuck with 4 colours -_-

    and it still didnt work!!!

/me begs for mercy to the mighty computer gods (excluding Romero, the dark lord of gaming)

**edit** if anyone suggests something that works i'll become your vassel for one month <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Some evil sites have recognised that more and more people have firefox, so they wrote evilish lines of code to harm us. I think you installed some *extension* which was not form the officiall extension site. NEVER EVER INSTALL SOME *EXTENSION* FROM AN UNKNOWN SITE. If you obey this you will be fine.
