I Think I Reconize Those!

<div class="IPBDescription">Sounds</div> I think i've heard sounds in NS from the following games:
StarCraft
Alien Versus Predator
POD

Chuckle sounds like a sound from Zerg in StarCraft.

I was just wondering. Did you borrow sounds from any other games?

    All sounds that you 'may have heard' in some other game are either sounds in the public domain, sonds purchased and licensed from a SFX library, or you being mistaken.

    Yeah one of the door-opening sounds is definetly from aliens(the movie) and also the game avp.

    All of the sounds were created by Scott, our sound guy, specifically for NS. Nothing was taken from other games. Some of them came from a SFX library that Flayra spent some hefty cash on. If you heard the sounds in other games it's because they used the same effects library.

    Same goes for the door opening sound which is the one used in "Aliens". I believe that one was provided by Relic and used on his ns_Bast map. It is a public domain sound and has been used elsewhere. It was put in, I think, as a subtle nod to the great and influential movie.

    Yep! You'd be surprised at how many sounds in movies and (commercial) games are found in the same way (public domain, or sound effect libraries).

    That chuckle is from the Rydon(a critter) in StarCraft and the menu sounds are from POD
    Can't think of anything else.

    And most of the Onos noises are used in every videogame featuring a big monster... I think I first heard those particular sounds in X-Com, so I think they came from there.

    Yeah, it's always weird when you're watching a movie and you hear some sound or other and you think, "Holy crap, that sound is from X-COM!"

    X-COM is my favorite game ever so I get excited <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The original X-Com is definately on my top ten list of best games ever. The second was just the first with a graphics update and for some reason number 3 just never took for me.

    I loved storming those big 3 decker alien ships <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Some of the Onos sounds were used waaaay back in the day for those big pink **obscenity** from Doom. I remember hearing the Pinkies' "wake-up" sound in particular in NS.

    A sound that I hear all the time (not in NS, but elsewhere) is the door-opening sound from Doom. Another common sound is the boost sound from Magic Carpet (old Bullfrog game)

    Yeah right now there is a commercial here in sweden where they use the scream from unreal(in the beginning when you wake up on the ship). They have also used a human scream from starcraft in a comercial.

    It's funny when you watch those cop shows. They used the canned screams and you just know it's fake.

    the ns team PAID the sound ppl at blizzard so that's why they sound like it -- because it's the same person doing it.
