    I'm fond of Bast myself.

    Just so many cool things about it, like the rotating airlocks and all the cool doors hehe.     I like them all apart from ns_eclipse... Sorry, but whenever I have played this map marines secure that base 3 feet away from their doorstep straight away.

    I voted for eclipse, because I like simple. If I could change anything, though, it would be to make the rounte to the marine base more convoluted. And no, there's no hive near the marine base. That's part of what I like about it.

    the reason I voted Nothing is because it is the singular most amazing peice of HL architecture I've ever seen.

    I actually don't like Eclipse as much... not because it's bad in terms of gameplay, but it doesn't fit NS very well. (except for those dim hallways in the center of the map) In eclipse, nothing is broken, and everything is very clean and softly lit.     I voted ns_bast... I don't know, but to me it's like the 2fort (tfc) of naturual selection. I just like the feel to it!

    My favorite is bast....so easy to make the marines turtle in their base.... also has some REALLY good hiding spots.


    I've been playing NS since it came out and I have still not played on all 7 maps. I have not played on Tanith yet.....     i voted for eclipse however i went back and looked at it and your right guys it does fit but it could fit better?? i think it would be better with more darkness and maybe more broken stuff but at least more darkness... u know what i havent seen much in most mpas except for 2 maps... thats like vents under the floor that u can see upwards out of like grated ones... and the same goes with the roof... it would be cool to hear a marine say "Bugger their in the cieling" hehe i dunno eclipse still gets my vote tho good work mate! Make it darker tho... im generally a marine but i want to be more scared more more more!!! =p hehe cept the torch sucks... not because it doesent light up much but because YOU light up 2 much... anyways... nancy is good as well! and the floating one is good when u start out as aliens... lotsa quickways to get to marin spawn and chomp! lots of safe and quick ways i should say!

    I personaly love nancy, it just is so damn cool. I wish there was a name on the third hive though.

    I also love love love love tanith, i dont know why but i just love it...

    I love Caged... I think its combination of atmosphere, visuals, and gameplay is perfect; the light/dark interplay and the feeling of HUGENESS (Ventilation hive, some other high-ceilinged areas) contrasted with some very claustrophobic areas (especially between Ventilation and the Generator hive). Every room really feels like it has a purpose. Beautiful, beautiful design.

    Highlights:
    1) The room just north of the Generator hive, with the resource nozzle, ladders, and piping
    2) The cargo "corridor" northeast of the Ventilation hive
    3) The room with the low water, catwalk, and resource node between the Sewer Hive and the Marine Spawn.
    4) The resource node reachable by vent or welding, only.
    5) Omnipresent heavy piping. Huge sense of scale.

    wow alot of guys loves Caged that really suprised me
    it dosent play too good for me tho
    i dont like it

    on the other hand nancy is the most fun map to play always how to harras the marines
    and the battles there are great

    Okay, I do have to defend myself here on one point. I've heard a few gripes about how sieges can be exploited in ns_bast, but what everyone should understand before saying that it's the map's fault is that ns_bast was designed and constructed when the sieges had to have line-of-sight to fire on alien structures. The siege firing through walls was changed very recently, relatively recently. So, unless I wanted to reconstruct everything that took me over a year to make in the first place, there wasn't anything I could do, mapwise, to prevent people from using siege the way they do now. To make matters worse, the range of the siege was increased dramatically in the released version.

    So, if you have to have a reason to dislike (really any) maps, make sure it's for the right reasons. It's not always our fault! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Re-build everything? You mean like Merkaba did every week with Hera? Hell yeah. Ns_Bast hardly changed in all the time we were playtesting. Relic I know you did a lot of the HUD graphics but Bast could have and should have been changed.

    On second thoughts that reads rather harshly. I don't want to knock Relic or Bast. I have great enthusiasm for Bast's un-fulfilled potential.

    I've pretty much given up on trying to persuade Relic to fix the layout issues (not siege cannon related) a long, long time ago.

    Can't believe nobody's mentioned the brilliance of Hera's ready room! Kudos to Merkaba on that ready room, it impresses me <i>every</i> time I play Hera. The rest of the map is completely beautiful also, and theres that great vent entrance to the marine's base. God I love aliens. Obviously Hera got my vote.

    Quite right - while <i>you</i> were playtesting. Think I never changed anything? I have exactly 234 different builds of ns_bast, over half of those were after it was 'completed', and it has undergone at least 3 complete overhauls since I started it. Maybe if I had quit my career job, got divorced, sold my house, and did nothing else for NS, I might have had the time to overhaul the entire map again <b>just</b> to accomodate a silly weapon that fires through walls.

    What's that expression about walking a mile in a man's shoes?

    Just because someone else had the time and energy to rearrange his map many times over, don't assume that everyone else is able to do the same.

    I think the siege turret range should accomodate the maps, not the other way around. Changing the range on them at the last moment sounds like a pretty lousy thing to do to the mappers.

    I wouldn't call it a lousy thing to do to a mapper... We all went into this knowing that anything could change at any time, potentially breaking our maps or at least causing issues to arise.

    If/when those issues did come around, not everyone has the capacity to remedy them, i.e. Relic's situation. That's just how it goes, though. :-\

    Hell, NS_Bast got my vote. I got plenty of stories that happened in that map....just about all of them ending up us being rushed to hell by onos...BUT STILL FUN!!!! I just love the way the map is layed out, very cool. I can't wait to see what type of maps will be included in V2.....

Aliens seem to stomp marines and Bast enough as it is so it can't exactly be a map crippling trait.

    I have to go with hera. It is the first map that I played becaused I thought it stood out the most of the screen shots givin during PR.

    the main reason that I like it is because I always know where I am and makes it much easier to get around. In alot of the other maps there are lots of hallways and vents that I find myself getting easily lost in... I often try to run to someone's assist, get myself lost, and wind up in the exact place I started.

    I also find the architecture of hera very good for gameplay with it's catwalks, loading docks, and possibly the most playability Ive ever seen squeezed out of an elevator.

    It has good contrast of well lit areas and dark areas, yet even in the well lit places I never have a problem finding a hiding place as kharaa.

    Bast is scrumtrulescent! It just fits together for me so well, its hard to describe.
    With the nod going to Nothing, for looks and gameplay though the abudance of narrow corridors is its downfall to bast.

    I wouldn't actually know if Bast were a beautifully constructed, well-layed out map, because I play Frontiersmen and my team has never made it more than thirty steps from our base on that level. The airlock and the long ladders slow the Humans' movements way, way too much around their base. A halfway competent alien team can keep you locked in forever. Assuming, of course, that they didn't win by rushing in the first 45 seconds.

    Grahhhhh, so sick of seeing that map.

    I voted for Eclipse. It seems the most balanced, and it has easily memorable location names. Which is really, really important as a Human, especially this soon after the mod's release. Oh yeah, and it's really fun.

    I hate eclipse. Worst alien level ever. Sorry, it's a nice map and all, but it blows for aliens. Nowhere to hide, all bright, wide corridors for marines to spew turrets around in. Marine spawn can't be rushed because they all sit back there and have 3 secconds to fill you with bullets before you reach them <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ah well. Bast rulz.

    Eclipse has many hidden goodies... I found two fabulous vents nearly a week after NS released (and I've been playtesting for 4 months!). Keep looking; there are more nooks and crannies than you might think. (:
