!!!!!!!1
[quote]But why even look back at System Shock 2 at this point? Because Irrational has been, and it plans to make a related announcement this Friday (tomorrow). The studio has decided that it wishes to further what it started in System Shock 2--to work on games that promote "emergent" gameplay--open-ended exploration that offers many choices and combinations of options to players. You'll see what we mean tomorrow.[/qupte]

There. Is. A. God.

I also ofcourse have to bring up the wory that we might end up with another Deus Ex 2

I don't want to think of it either, but it has to be said.

Letus all pray that this will not be the case.

    What are you talking about?

Nobody made a sequel to Deus Ex.

    It doesn't exist.

Could you change the D3 engine to include an inventory as well integrated as SS2's? That's my only concern- I felt so unprotected when I shoved the PDA up to my eyes to read it. I mean, the graphics are nice. REAL NICE. And we've seen that some of the maps can just OOZE atmosphere, an important part of the SS2 (Never played SS1, so I can't comment on it.) And it's already got the netcode for 4 players, I'm guessing making it coop wouldn't be that far of a jump.

Although you know what's AWESOME? 16 player coop. I've played through the original HL, with 16 people, on a SvenCoop server. It was fantastic. (And by fantastic, I mean crazy.)

I liked Deus Ex 2. It wasn't the best single player game ever crafted by the likes of man, but it certainly wasn't a horrible borefest. It was only bad if you compared it to Deus Ex.

I'm not going to get my hopes up that it's a System Shock 3, but just the fact that they're going to make an announcement has me interested.

exactly. it was great as a game, crappy as a sequel!

as for doom3 engine i'm sure they could make it ss-ish which would own the whole superdark doom3-style would fit into ss3 perfectly!

and doom3 was scary enough even thinking about ss3 on doom engine is scaring me

I do believe that my Pance are now in the state of being torn to ends of the universe due to the sheer awesomeness of this news.

This is almost as good as Blizzard giving me an email that I've been accepted for the WoW beta, or finding out that I've just inherited several trillion dollars.

Sadly, odds are it'd be another hacked-up Unreal Engine a la DX2, Thief3, and Tribes: Vengeance. T:V looks ok, but the other two leave a lot to be desired. D3 engine would definitely be ideal for that sort of project.

Here's hoping it is in fact another System Shock game *Crosses fingers*

My first thoughts playing Doom 3 actualy.

Then I decided that moding SS2 into Doom3 would suck but modding Domm3 into SS2 would be icnreadable.

In conclusion Doom 3 sucks and SS2 rules.

    Oh almost forogot:

I'm always skeptical about these 'rumored' announcements, or even official announcements. I start having hopes when I actually see screenshots and that they're having progress.

But still, it's very nice to hear System Shock 3 could actually be made. Let's just hope they can top the second one, which is, let's all agree, pretty hard.
