damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it
Damn it.

So I get out of class and I dart over to a grocery store and grab the newest Playstation Magazine.

Why would I care about a stupid magazine?

BECAUSE THIS MONTH OF PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE HAS A DEMO OF METAL GEAR SOLID 3!!!!

So I get home, and I tell myself I'm not going to play it until I do my homework. I do my homework, all of it.

So then I sit down to play a well-earned game of pure orgasmic goodness....

AND THE GOD DAMN freaking PIECE OF **** freaking DISC DOESN'T freaking WORK. >:(

Wow, faulty disc. How messed up is that. Can you still return it, or maybe exchange it for a working disc?

Assuming you've taken the usual troubleshooting steps to restore a CD to readable status, I'd say your only option left is to microwave it. }:)

I've tried wiping it clean. All other discs read fine on my PS2. The disc doesn't read in my PC dvd-rom drive either so I know its the disc that's bad. But I don't have any of those stupid repair kits or anything.

Good god that is so much fun. As long as you have a microwave that no longer matters.

2+ balls of rolled up aluminum foil work just as well.

I'd suggest taking it back to the store where you bought it, they should be fine with just giving you another magazine if you're bringing back the disc, the disc sleeve and the magazine. It's not like you're running in, stealing demo discs and returning shredded magazines or something.

    ...Or are you?

[edit: plus, this story has a moral: "NEVER, EVER - UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - DO HOMEWORK BEFORE VIDEOGAMES."

...conviently enough, all that capitalization was done with my shift key...because, though I strive for efficieny, I'm too lazy to press the big, annoying caps lock key instead of holding down shift for 10 seconds...

    I am messed up.]

Eh? Can't you just import the full GitS game from Japan? (I know it's not in English, but it's already been out since 5 months ago or longer)

As for the demo disc....take it back and ask for a replacement.
Failing that, proceed with operation 'Beat manager continously with a pen'.

If that's out of the question, try smearing a thin layer of toothpaste (Yes, toothpaste) onto the cd. Let it dry and buff it off using a soft tissue always moving from the center outwards, never in circles. Toothpaste is a very fine abrasive. It contains small particles of titanium dioxide. I've fixed a few CDs and one DVD using this method.

Be sure to wash the residue off afterwards with some metho or alcohol.

Despite the fact they are console games, the MGS are the best games evar IMO.
