    Why do we get pets when we know they're just gonna die?

    Why do we make friends or have children or have any sort of social life whatsoever if we know they are going to die?

    It's just a part of life that your going to have to accept. Just try and remember all the great experiences you had with your dog while they lasted. I have already been through 2 of my families dog death's and they were both emotional but you just have to accept it. Death is an inevitable aspect of life, oh well.

    My cat doubled her expected lifespan... died at age 19 ( <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) a few months ago. Sad at first, but seeing as how she was pretty bad the last few days, it was for the best.

    As for your dog, did he have some disease or something? If not, that doubly sucks when its sudden.

    My neighbors have gone through 7 cats in the past 2 years. They keep getting eaten by coyotes, cougars and large birds, yet the neighbors keep letting the cats out, even in the -45C weather.

    Edit: Oh, and they ARE cuddly. My cat was awesome. Great lap warmer when my parents refused to turn on the furnace.

    My cat is awesome, he drinks Pepsi, he's 16 years old. I call him the Dark Lord of Chaos. He's also a pimp. He also listens to metal with me.. I have yet to see him head bang, but my friend insisted that he did it once.

    I'll be sad when he decides to leave this plain of existance.

    I wish my cat was as cool as urs Rion, mine is just completely psycho and runs up to you, paws at your leg and then runs off again. He also likes to nibble on toes and scratch my annoying sister, which is VERY cool.

    Very sorry to hear about your puppy DarkATi, I have gone through that twice in my lifetime. I could still cry thinking about either of them... it it's been a long time.

    We keep pets because the time we spend with them is so wonderful, that we choose not to dwell on the fact that there is inevitable pain at the end. The best you can do is give them a good life, and they will love you unconditionally for that.

    Oddly enough, loosing my dog was ‘harder’ than losing a grand parent. (I LOVE my grand parents)… but they weren’t a part of my every day life, like my baby was… I still expect to hear and see her when I return home. *tears up*

    I had to put my dog to sleep last year, she was 17 I believe. It's sad / weird at first not seeing them anymore, then you kinda move on.

    Pets aren't meant to depress you. My advice : have fun with them while they're young and active , then give them to eldery people when they're fat and apathetic , so you don't have to pay for the burrial <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Man I have a pet I <i>wish</i> would die. A 5 1/2 ft. long ball python that's 17 yrs. old and totally refuses to kick the bucket.

    Back on topic, you have my sympathies.

    Nice, instead of a pet you have a damnit-doll.

    Well my parents have me and Im sure they know Im going to die sometime ^_^

    Hopfully not today though *Crosses fingers

    But really, your dog died <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I never had a dog b/c people in my family had allergies. i always wanted a Yellow Lab. (Yellow lab is my favorite dog)

    So instead of a furry cuddly animal I had a goldfish. You cant really pet/play/cuddle/take out for a walk a gold fish though.

    And those goldfish die like every 3 months.

    Except for one, who lived to be over 5 years old. He was so old he was a white fish and he really didnt swim around a whole lot. He was a survivor though. He lived through 3 house moves, and falling down the gargbage slicer/dicer thingy in the sink and getting stuck for 3 hours. He had flopped out of the net when I was moving him to a small bowl so I could clean out his fishbowl.

    His name was Jeff. I woke up one day and went over to feed him and there s/he (well technically I dont know if it was a boy/girl fish) was floating on the surface.
    <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> meh. I got a little misty... (if your laughing shut up its the closest thing I had to a dog when I was a little kid...so yea <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    I forget how old I was when he died.

    The best pet is one that can outlive even your kids like a parrot or a tortoise <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Oh and I had two dogs run away, one of them I don't know what happen. The other one crawl into our neighbour's yard and there a headless dog and a very happen bulldog. I was 10 so I didn't care but I still have my turtle that my parents got even before I was born.

    My mom had my dog put down while I was at a pool party, and my rat died of cancer... Now My cat is old and sickly and I fear the worse.

    Sucks about your dog man, I feel your pain. Hope it doesn't get you down too much. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    This is nothing but bad news... my Dog is older than me by a couple months - and I'm sixteen! Jeeze!

    I really hope this doesn't mean he's going to kick the bucket soon... *Pokes sleeping Max to make sure* =\

    Depends on the size of the dog... my terrier is expected to live some 15 years, while large dogs might only live 7 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    So if your Max is small enough to pick up and huggle, then he has a long lifespan. However 19 years is kinda long. I think the oldest dog was 23 or something.
