This is very nice. If just the devs would do something to help the newer players out when it comes to bhop, even a simple guide in the manual would help... <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The manual you speak of is horrifically outdated. Shame really.

Last I knew, the NS Guides were rewriting the manual, though. So all is not lost (or so we hope)

The manual is neat for getting an idea what it is all about, but you learn better when someone show you how it's working. All power to #nslearn.

So are there gonna be some certain people on the server that "teach" the others? If you need some teacher type people count me in.

I don't know if any of you guys have played <a href='http://www.painkillergame.com' target='_blank'>Pain Killer</a> but in that game you can bunny hop just by hitting space and forward. I think that it would be really good for new players to start bunny hopping if it was as easy as that.

If you have not played it get the demos from fileplanet, its a good (but repetitive) game with zombies and stakes <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I found guides to be a simple enough way to learn. I think a spectator would find it hard to find the problems in someone's attempted bhop. Certainly with strafing and jump timings.

That's not bunnyhopping as it is here then. It's less of a skill and more of a button mash.

If you would just hit space to bunnyhop, wouldn't that just be a regular jump? Tribes 2 had a similar system. I think it was called skiing or something to that extent: where you tap jump every so often to get down a large slope faster.

The reason bhopping is so easy in pain killer is because it's impossible to miss a jump. Also in painkiller you gain more speed by moving your mouse around like a maniac so yea don't just hold forward wiggle your mouse a bunch and turn left and right too. If you just hold down forward and keep jumping you build up speed but not nearly as much as pr0 players do.

Bhopping is very easy to do if it's easy to time your jumps. People in quake learned to bhop easy and they did in painkiller too, because jump timing was a simple and easy thing to do.

Which is exactly the problem in NS. The devs persist that bhop is a feature yet it's too hard for the average joe to master. Even I have problem using it properly under stress.

Jacknife, can you make demos from the lesson and upload it to nslearn.org? I live in europe so I will probably have a hard time making it, gg timezones <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yeh my point was that if bunny hopping was to stay in the game why not make it accessable to all players regardless of skill?

I find learning parts of the game like that fun.
  • RueRue Join Date: 2002-10-21 Member: 1564Members
Yeh personaly I find stuff like that a little bit of a challange in a game where its relivitly easy to shoot on target(no recoil)

But the fact the new players have to make binds to bhop with a skulk (+duck/-duck) seems to favour experianced players. Skulks were weakened in 3.0 from 20AP to 10AP yet nothing was done to compansate for this.

thats why I like the YO server where aliens move about 10% faster

This manual doesn't seem too out of date.

it's pretty obvious that you need to hold duck to bhop as a skulk... for me at least. That part at least is intuitive...

and why don't we include an aimbot in the game if we are going to keep aiming? Seriously why dumb stuff down just because some newbie can't do it? ANYONE CAN BHOP IT JUST TAKES PRACTICE. or hey go to the #nslearn session. I'm sure after that you'll have at least a good idea of what you should do

I'd be interested in the lesson, though I wonder if it'd be wasting my time since the most FPS I can achieve in a normal map (Like ns_eclipse) with 5v5 is around 25 on average FPS.

Would someone like me be able to learn to bhop or would it be a waste of time. I heard bhopping requires high fps rates, which is somthing I can't get.

I'm sure you figured out how to do your ultra1337z0r bhop all by yourself without any help from someone else (guides etc). If that's the case, GOOD FOR YOU! But we don't give a damn, newbies should still be given a chance. But honestly by the sound of your post it seems that you're more afraid that people will get better than you (maybe you can't aim) than NS losing newbies thus not growing.

Wow there are bhop scripts? I never knew that. They are probably worthless and only ignorant morons like you would ever use them.

Will you idiots please think before you speak? You want the most elite jump script ever?

    alias j "+jump;wait;-jump;wait"
    bind space "j;j;j"

OMG PASTE THAT IN YOUR CONFIG AND YOU CAN BHOP AND OWN ALL THOSE MEAN CLANNERS.

No I'm saying that dumbing down the game just because some people suck is retarded. Leave bhop the way it is. If anything, implement Quake style jumping. Just don't make it like PK please. Holding forward and jumping is so lame.

Be a regular on some server. Find some people there who know how to do it. Ask one to help you out with bhopping.

I taught Flayra how to bhop. Anyone can learn. He is also considering implementing the +3jumps script into NS.

The ONLY thing that makes bhopping hard to learn is that timing your jumps in <b>THE HALF LIFE ENGINE</b> is very difficult to do.

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> Nadagast, you are pathetic. And you are ignorant and have no clue about what you speak of. You are like a virgin telling a prostitute how to have sex

Newbies do not mean people are so brain dead they need the game to do features of the game for them. Newbies only need to be able to learn it easily, not do it easily. Dumbing down the game has nothing to do with teaching a newb how to play the game.
