What Is Your Meaning Of Life

kidakida Join Date: 2003-02-20 Member: 13778Members
<div class="IPBDescription">that keeps you going from day to day</div> Not everyone of us are blind to ask these questions from time to time.

Everytime I look around this not so very fine world...I ask myself if it is all worth fighting for? Dieing? And even living?

I mean, to all you who might just sit around at the computer, or to even those of you with so to speak lives, what is it? Are you happy?

I don't mean to be negative, only curious.

Uh oh, its that religious kid again - no prizes for guessing whats going to follow in this post <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

What keeps me going from day to day is the 100% confidence that their is an infinitely powerful God who loves and cares about me, and has created me for a purpose. He also loves and cares for the people around me, even those I dont know, and expects me to treat them as such.

No ones life is without point, no matter how much time you spend either in front of the PC or out at the pub.

Take away God, however, and I'll go mad like Nietzche.

Personally I don't think its worth it, I mean, how can their be any good with so much bad? I know your life is what you make of it, and I tend to worry about things I cannot control.

    Why you go on living:

    1) To justify your existance, through [religion/unwestern thoughts aside]:

    - your perceived happiness
    - comparison of your life to the lives of others
    - your 'achievements' in life
    - the importance of your existance to others

    OR

    2) You continue living and existing because you're afraid of either death, or of not being alive.

Just something to think about, i guess. Start picking holes in it in 5.. 4... 3...

I don't put a meaning to life, except for enjoying it, maybe. I don't really care if the universe has some ulterior motive for keeping me around.

    For me:

Finding a reason to live, and the lack of will to end my life...

And playing ns/do fun stuff with friends/enjoy the feeling you're making yourself usefull when you are actually working/learning stuff..

    Plain and simple.

Cause I want more everything and better. I want to wake up tomorrow to find a job so that the money that I gather daily will get me something brand new and exciting until something better comes along. Sounds selfish? Of course it does! It's ME living MY own life so when it comes to selfishness.. then WHO am I supposed to live for?

    And sex.

To achieve great feelings, like orgasms, or adrenaline highs. The feelings alone should be enough for most anyone.
Or generally making myself feel good(which can also be done by helping others mind you).

The meaning of life according to me is to make other people happy, and live ur life to 100%, that means no drugs, no alcohol, nothing that changes who you are, not even for a little while.

Find the one true love is a great accomplishment, such as I have.
And right now, she is my life, without her, there is no life for me.

To find your soulmate might seem impossible, it can be VERY difficult, but its possible!

Life is about passion for other people.

Life is just one big test, even in my religion- its just to see where your going to go. And frankly, being its just one big test, I don't want to screw up, or give up some time too soon. My real meaning in my life at least is to find my other half- I just want a wife, and want her life to be as perfect as it can be with a husband like me. Thats all that matters, and its all that will EVER matter.

Life is cool. I mean, seriously. I've never really understood why people whine about all the negative parts <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So well, I live because I couldn't see any reason not to. There's downsides, true, but most of life is cool.

Its just..., I cannot see the meaning of it all, perhaps JUST living will provide it...

    You do mean achieve, right?

Because the feelings ARE temporary. If you had a constant high you would get used to it. You would feel happy for being alive and having a warm body with your heart beating at a soothing rhytmical pace, only, you take it for given. I expect there is some japanese or chinese art that allows you to feel this, like Zen or something, but as I don't know how to do it, I'll hunt for the more extreme and rare feelings.

By the way, I don't do drugs of any kind(including alcohol and nicotine), and never will. It's artificial. Better to play games and get an adrenaline high, even if you aren't exercising much.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no meaning to life other than what you attach to it.

If drugs are artificial, what makes games not that way? It's just another means to an end, is it not? I'm just interested to hear why using video games to get a 'natural' high is any different from drugs that actually make your body release the exact same chemicals.

Meh, I think humans are "capped" at their intelligence or something, we CANNOT 100% understand ourselves, thus leaving us troubling ourselves with this.

Life is the cycle of being born, reproducing, and dying.
This all comes together into one huge spiral of birth and death.

Well, that's what it means really :/

And of course, to add to it, anything that starts, stops.

    Meh, I hate myself for knowing this <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->

EDIT : I'd like to quote Nem0's sig, because it's just cool anyhow.

As far as I'm concerned, the meaning of life is to invent meaning - and I believe that applies to everyone.

My personal view on life is that this world is a festering ****hole, and that human beings are the lowest form of life on it. So all you can do is strive to hold yourself to personal laws of morality - and sanity. When all the world goes to hell around you, and you're an island in a sea of idiocy and blind unthinking, ultimately all you can do is look after yourself. Yes, I'm elitist.

In short, life has no inherent meaning. Human beings are designed to do one thing better than anything else: find meaning in things. By attaching significance to otherwise insignificant things, and then constructing further meanings based on these original concepts, we're far more complex than those of the other spieces on the planet.

But, ultimately: "we think we think, therefore we think we are". There's no higher purpose.

[edit]Nah, screw it. I'm too tired to phrase sentences properly. G'night.[/edit]

    Stop thinking about it.
If there is an after life you've got a lot of time to figure it out once you're dead.
If there isn't... then there wasn't any point to life, but at least you didn't waste your time worrying about it.

But if you MUST know, the meaning of life is Carbon Goes Wild!

Seraph, its not the answer, but the question that gives you the answer...in this case what is 6x9 in base 13.....

Anyway, my meaning of life...survival basically, natural instict that keeps us living. But the only true thing that keeps me living is the quest for knowledge and some curiosity...I mean, tommorow is alway different, and who knows what wonders (or horrors) it might bring...so why end it now, because im curios as to what tommorow will bring.
