hows about a series of 3 or so pics - the challenge being to maintain some consistencey of characters through them, and also to deal with having several figures in each:

    #1) The briefing...

bunch of marines in combats and t-shirts sitting in a briefing room with the officer giving them details of the installation they are about to assault (on a big screen, or a floating hologram) - if u've seen the pilot for Space:Above and Beyond you'll know what I mean.

    #2) Suiting Up...

A group of marines in their readyroom, getting into their armour, checking weapons etc. maybe one sitting down reading from a bible or praying. try to get a "nervous good/high spirits" feel to it. for this, think either S:AaB again, or any of the scenes of the Starfury pilots prepping from B5

    #3) The long wait...

and finally, the marines waiting in the dispatch room, with the glow of the IP ahead. waiting for someone to die and them being sent to replace them... a very sombre atmosphere for this i think. dark with lots of strong lighting from the IP field

    #4) Into the fire...
Shot of group of marines, fightng back to back, in a corridor/room, skulks leaping, lerks flapping, guns blazing, maybe some wounded. dramatic lighting and angles etc

you could even tie it in with 5kyh16h91's messhall idea as a #0 and mr headcrab's Pre-Op as a #5. basically telling the story of a marine operation in 6 pictures..

So a box in front of some marines?

    OHHHHHH BURN

What? I wasn't being sarcastic with that second line. His first two sentences just struck me as funny

And as long as more suggestions are coming in I might as well continue.

    - Scene of a family gathered around the holoscreen (or whatever kind of "TV" you think they'll have in the future) watching with curiosity and apprehension as the first reports of the kharaa invasion are broadcast publicly. Possibly include pictures of a man in TSA uniform and a distinct lack of a father in the family, to show that he has joined the marines and is going to fight. Alternatively, if you want a larger scene with a greater variety of people (showing off futuristic fashion styles) you could show a scene in a bar with the screen above the barkeep, as both he and the clients tilt their heads to stare at the screen during the report.

    - A lerk carrying a gorge in its claws. For best effect, I'd recommend the shot be outside, with a forest or hive below, and numerous other gorges staring up at their friend, who is looking around in amazement (I think gorges are the easiest aliens to give pseudo-intelligent facial expressions to, but then again, I probably have your artwork to thank for that).

    - A shot of a leaping skulk, mouth open and ready to attack, as seen from the viewpoint of a marine the skulk is leaping at, ~half a second before he hits. Tint the edges of the shot with either red or black to evoke a feeling of panic, whichever works better. Even better, show tracer fire from the doomed marine's lmg sail past the skulk in every direction, possibly including one or two hits on the skulk's chest/back that are non-lethal but still draw blood.

    - A closeup partial-side view of a skulk's (or fade's) head. He is battle-hardened, the closer eye obviously having been shot out. It is streaming black ichor and green fluid down the skulk's face, like tears, and there is also a good-sized splash of it behind the eye. The splash is there because of the speeds the skulk was running/leaping at, the "blood" streamed behind the eye instead of running down the face. As a final touch, be sure to include bloodied fangs and saliva mixed with blood dripping from the corner of its mouth.

    - If you have a strong stomach.....a shot of only the head + neck of a marine inside an onos's stomach. The mouth is contorted in a bloody scream. The digestive juices have begun to eat away at the helmet - revealing burning hair and scalp; the visor - revealing an eye that is completely open and white with terror; and a particularly gruesome touch, the cheek has started to disintegrate, and some teeth are visible through the hole in the side of the doomed marine's face.

    Mission Failure

A council chamber full of important-looking figures with grave looks on their faces. They are viewing a large screen that shows feedback from a security camera in the marine base on an infested station. The base is all but being devastated by the kharaa, the few remaining marines making a last stand behind some makeshift shelter made from blocks, pipes, building parts and whatnot.

The council chamber should be darkened and moody, the screen being the only major light source. The chamber has a central platform with the one large screen and a few smaller ones showing other cameras, and a table in the form of a half-circle that has all the somewhat insubstantial figures, illuminated only from the front by the screen. The viewpoint should be near the center of the table I think.

I'm not very good at this, but it's fun nonetheless

    - A Marine clinging onto the back of an Onos with one hand as it tries to throw him off, and holding his gun (either LMG or pistol) in the other, shooting into the Onos. Possibly add some other Marines around the Onos, diving out of the way or shooting at it.

    - A Marine, kneeling by a fallen friend. His helmet is off, and the aftermath of a battle can be seen behind him - but the focus is on the Marine. The background seems distant (blurred slightly?) but the viewer is still reminded of it by alien blood splattered on the Marine's armor. His hair is matted (see above: helmet off) with sweat, and he has a cut on the side of his head. There is an expression of remorse on his face as he looks on his dead friend, who is still holding his gun in one hand. The dead Marine has a puddle of blood beneath him, and the wound is clearly coming from his lower abdomen.

How bout a lone marine running for his life from an onos in a dark and cramped maintenance shaft. The perspective would have to be from a shoulder cam angle on the onos. Of course the marine would be looking back with fright, there would be a large service conduit directly in front of him, which he doesn't see cause he's looking back.

You could title it "Don't trip"

    'Clean up'
Now... a squad (four no less) of marines are sweeping the ship of any remaining khaara. They'd fan out to further check the area. One marine in front, with a motion tracker would raise his hand for them to stop and be frantically trying to find out where the movement on his tracker came from. Of course there would be a little skulk hidden somewhere, more than likely above them. Oh, they'd have big guns.

I think possibly a lone marine walking in a hallway with an hmg, and he is kinda creeping around. And there is a cloacked skulk behind him. I don't see how you would make teh skulky , cuz he is invisible... Saves youo more work i guess lol. Actuallly you could probably just make him halfway visible... Or something screwy like that... A newly killed hive loosing its grasp from the roof done by a marine lying down dead with a smoking pistol, he had been slammed into the wall by an onos then rolled down on the floor lying flat on his stomache. His sole should be rising up from his body without helmet and armor (clothes not naked thou), the sole should have it's legs in the dead marines like when u do pushup. The sole should be kinda transperrent and/or a bright light around it and with wings. The marines had tryed to pg rush a hive but every one died before the hive was dead exept this guy. Lots of bullet holes around where the hive have been and maybe a broken pg. Put blood on the wall were the marine had been slammed.

Maybe its a silly idea, but i see it in my head and i like it meh
