<div class="IPBDescription">Jeez, stop breathing so much</div> <a href='http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39577' target='_blank'>Whites more responsible for Global Warming</a>

"<i>A new study released by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation suggests rising temperatures will kill more black citizens than whites in the U.S., while claiming African-Americans are less responsible than others for causing so-called "global warming." </i>"

<i>The new report for the CBCF has three main findings:

-America's black population will be disproportionately burdened by the health effects of global warming;

-Blacks are less responsible for contributing to global warming than other Americans; and

-Policies designed to mitigate global warming can generate large health and economic benefits for blacks, depending on their implementation.</i>

What say ye ?

    I would like to see the figures on this.

    That said, is there anything else that whites can do to oppress the black man. Apparently racism has lost its luster, so we are looking to other indirect avenues.

    I like how the didn't explain just how whites are causing greater global warming than blacks. Sounds more like blacks have a better chance of dying than whites because of the drawbacks of city life. This is nothing new.

    BTW, right now global warming caused primarily by humanity is a bunch of hooey. There have been no experiments thus far that have proved that we are in a period of global warming and more importantly that we're the only cause of it.

    Typical human thought..."We're so great we must be causing global warming! Only <b>we</b> can save the Earth from its harmful effect!"

    First, the longterm effects of global are not "irrefutable", but are constantly being debated. Second, black people in America make up only 15% of the population, so of course they will contribute less to global warming. I did not see an per capita values here.

    I think this sums it up nicely:

    "Global warming – at least the modern nightmare version – is a myth," Bellamy told the Telegraph. "I am sure of it and so are a growing number of scientists. But what is really worrying is that the world's politicians and policy-makers are not.

    "Instead, they have an unshakeable faith in what has, unfortunately, become one of the central credos of the environmental movement: humans burn fossil fuels, which release increased levels of carbon dioxide – the principal so-called greenhouse gas – into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to heat up. They say this is global warming, I say this is poppycock."

    Sounds to me like this is another scapegoat for indemic problem in black cultural. Many of the health problems associated with black people are because they statistically do not take care of themselves.

    I think the whole thing is ludicrous, but completly expected from the Black Caucus. Maybe if Project 21 corroborates this I will believe it.

    Burning coal is increasing the temp in our atmosphere this is a fact.. no one can denay it. OK do we agreed this. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    but no one knows is it going to warm us so much as they predict in those "horror reports" ...

    I think not.

    But if we agreed to the fack we need to understand it and not to increse it if not nessessery.--- (like move from atom energy to coal...)

    I always thought that groups such as "Congressional Black Caucus Foundation" were agains racism in all of its forms. Perhaps I need a re-education as to what qualifies as racism, but saying something like "People of your color are more responsible for the bad in this world than people of my color" seems pretty close to racism to me...

    As to the actual topic - It kind of makes sence - from the standpoint that whites are the majority in most "developed" (and hence fossil fuel burning) countries.
    It would be interesting to see if the "Congressional Black Caucus Foundation" would do a study on violent crime, or gang activities, or something along those lines. I bet they wouldn't make the statement "Blacks more to blame for inner city crime".

    Yes because that would be racist. Remember its not racist when you point fingers at whites, only when you point it at blacks.

    It seems that minority advocacy groups are outliving their relevance and competence by the day. Where one earth do they come up with this stuff? I'd be interested to see a psychological investigation into the types of dementia that lead to such blatant illogic and hypocrisy. Its infuriating that these groups are still taken seriously despite the rediculous putrid tripe that spews forth from their mouths.

    Jesus.

    As far as I can tell alot of these 'facts' are very posibly true

    however, I am willing to bet that if you split this on $$ lines instead of race lines you would see that wealthy blacks are just as bad as wealthy whites, where as poor whites are in the crapper just as much as poor blacks.

    Things brought up:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->over seventy percent of African Americans living in counties in violation of federal air pollution standards.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Those are probably the poorer counties (aka the ones that can't pay to elect people to represent them in the govn't

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->All of these problems are compounded by the fact that Blacks are 50% more likely than non-Blacks to be uninsured.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Again, that is not a racial thing, thats a $$ thing

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->African American workers are likely to be laid off disproportionately due to the economic instability caused by climate change. In general, economic transitions strike hardest at those without resources or savings to adapt.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Again, $$ not race.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->African American households emit twenty percent less carbon dioxide than white households.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->The major source of difference in average household carbon emissions is variation in income. The wealthiest deciles emit several times as much carbon as the poorest deciles. Blacks currently comprise a quarter of all Americans living in poverty, and 22% of individuals with household incomes of less than 150% of the federal poverty standard.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Nuff Said.

    basicaly the entire artical is saying that b/c blacks make up a larger % of the poor population they are gona get a higher % of screwed then whites are.

    Take the entire artical and replace white with rich and black with poor and you have a better understanding.

    I would also like the point out that the names on that artical consist of: a congressman, the president of the orginisation, and a Doctor who is the VP of Research and Programs.

    I am willing to bet that each one of them makes mroe money then my family does (college profs), and thus the artical dosn't even aply to them.

    oh well, revers racism at its best.

    (oh, and yes, blacks to make up a much larger % of violent crimes, yet again b/c of $$ not race)

    "The white man is trying to keep them down!" Melt the polar ice caps ! That will show them !

    *sigh*

    This attitude has been going on for a long time, and I've always seen it. Is that how you guys feel ? Or is this like the one thing that makes you go "Whoa" hold up. Do they really feel this way ?

    The answer, is yes.

    I'd also like to note, thats its not just since whites are more numerous. They also said that a white household puts out 20% more carbon dioxide.

    You guys do realise that Global warming would happen, fossil fuels or not? It's just a part of a cycle: Ice age - Global worming - Ice age - Global warming. All we humans are doing is just speeding it up. Whoever is contributing to it more doesn't matter. It's going to happen anyway, and the only thinge we should be doing, instead of pointing the finger, is trying to find a way to slow it down, so we have a longer time to prepare for the ice age that will follow it.
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
    yah, sirus, as I pointed out. The ENTIRE article is about how b/c a larger % of blacks are poor, they then get the worst of it (as it is the poor people who contribute less and feel the brunt)

    it has nothing to do with race/skin colour, it has to do with $$

    Don't worry. No matter what, I'm sure that they have 1000s of years to figure something out. There are much much more pressing concerns in the world.

    As people have pointed out, the only real social divide in America nowadays is monetary...racism for the most part is a non-factor. We need to find a way to break the cycle of poverty and the only logical way to do that it through education.

    If people don't wish to get an education, whether white, black or purple screw 'em. I just can't understand how kids are still dropping out of high schools at 16 when a college degree wont even ensure gainful employment. Back in the 60s and 70s, even the 80s you could be successful, but that's notthe case today.
  • SirusSirus Join Date: 2002-11-13 Member: 8466Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    You're right, the REAL case is monetary and education. What I'm trying to point out is that the much of the Black community is duped into thinking that it's all racism thats keeping them down.

    i wouldn't worry about humans adding to the greenhouse effect. As it is 95-98% of the greenhouse effect is caused by one gas. Water vapor. the remainder is mainly co2, of which humanity causes roughly 5%. so at most we are contributing .025% of the worlds greenhouse effect.
    If i remember the stats correctly this should result in a 1-2 degree c change in the earths temperature over a century.
    But in fact over the 20th century the mean temp increased 3-5 degrees. The wierd part is that the vast majority of that occured it the early half of the 20th century, before the mass rise of human greenhouse production (and an increase in global greenhouse production not caused by man)
    This seems to indicate that an increase in global temperature from an outside source (funny that during that period in time there was an increase in solar flare activity, compared to the decline and almost stop in solar flare activity in the several centuries prior) is causing the earth to respond by putting out greenhouse gasses.

    But the cool part is this, the earth seems to have a good balance on things. In lab studies using controlled environments with co2 balance through the roof (roughly 3-5 times current levels) plants grew much bigger (trees averaging 3 times the width with twice the growth rate). This means that a large scale production of greenhouse gasses could double the earths biomass.

    Also note that before the last mini ice age where solar flare activity was at an almost dormant level the earth was quite a bit hotter than it is now( 5th - 10th century AD). Archeological and fossil records showing that greenland was actually green, having large ammounts of native flora.

    My numbers are probably off by small amounts as im citing this from memory. if you want i can dig up some cites for sources, or you can go look at a book called <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0743488288/qid=1091042112/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-9872631-7795227?v=glance&s=books&n=507846' target='_blank'>Kicking the Sacred Cow</a> that shows scientific reasoning to debunk theories like man made global warming and ozone depletion, as well as adding some controversy to concepts like evolution (used on a radical level)

    No. Those are Uncle Tom's and boot lickers, as are conservative/republican blacks. ie. Colin Powell and Rice.
