    I dunno, for that game it'd be cool if you could choose your race like, in a match/scrim or something, it'd be way different kind of like, Marines vs Cyborgs or Cyborgs vs Aliens of Marine vs marine, cyb vs Cyb, god, that'd be so sweet, so many different tactics to use, i'd love it, but i don't know if that's how it would work, plus i think it'd really be hard to balance that :o

    First of all, I want to say that I myself have been a fan of Natural Selection for a long time now and I won't lie when I say it has influenced my design. I've heard great stories of Natural Selection's legendary project leader/lead coder/lead designer from Grendel and I respect the work his amazing team has accomplished. However, I've also been a fan of the RTS/FPS hybrid genre since the release of "Battlezone" and I want to clear things up here: NeoShock is <b>not</b> a Natural Selection clone/wannabe.

    There are several major differences in terms of game design, off the top of my head:
    - The RTS and FPS elements are seperated, the human team has no top-down commander position but instead a squad leader that leads his soldiers on the field and from a first person perspective. The alien team is the team with a commander-like interface, and they manage AI-controlled soldiers, not players.
    - The game is not about resource control and advancement. NeoShock doesn't have a resource system and building system like NS, the entire human team arrives on the map with all equipment selected before-hand, and the alien team's evolution system is about resource allocation, as they will have a fixed amount of resources throughout a game.
    - The human team will consist of more than marines, and there will be vehicles, as well as the third team: the AI robots.

    To answer moomin.'s concerns about 1v1v1s, NeoShock is employing an ambitious system of unbalanced teams, so the ratio of players for Human:AI:Aliens might be 6:2:1

    so lemme straighten myself out.

    marines = group of human players.
    aliens = 1 human player with top down view controlling AI
    cyborgs = some AI players.



    on a side note, i would be interested in testing this if possible.

    You almost had it!

    marines = group of human players.
    aliens = up to 4 human players controlling AI from FP perspective (picture in picture, and alien players play physical brain entities)
    cyborgs = HUMAN players, 'AI' is just refering to the cyborg team, these players control single robots and receive orders from an artificial intelligence system.

    oh god, seriously. Quite whining and trying to raise a uproar against their production because its a aliens vs human game that's a rts and 1st person shooter.     Just quit it. Just because the 2 games are similiar does NOT mean its a "blatant rip off" of NS. So cut the crap and quit pointing fingers at their devs.

    BTW, if you would go to our forums you would realize we made our initials NSO, as noted in my sig as Neoshock Online.

    I joined the bandwagon while the train was already moving, but one reason for putting Online at the end was to distinguish between this mod which is very good and most likely will be on the Source engine. I wasn't in the naming process, so I can't say for sure.

    Actually, I think it is positive; reference to a previously succesful game (at least it was, before v3).

    It sounds a bit dubious if the ratio isn't even, and 2v1 ganging sounds bad too...     I think 3 races is quite intresting, it will add more fun to the game along with tactics. Its like a temporary alliance in the field of battle, then when its 1v1 the fighting starts up again. Keeps games intresting and not repetative rounds like NS is.


    (The only way that would work is if each race has some sort of reinforcment ship or portal which after destroyed, the race is crushed and ended fpr that round/game. and all the players on that tema would be forced to spectator and to join the 2 remaining races in battle)

    Hi guys! Jubal here from the NSO concept art team. Just wanted to explain our unbalanced team design. As Pin stated the ratio of humans to cyborgs to aliens could be 6:2:1. That sounds odd doesn't it? Well it does if you're thinking that a human is just as strong as an alien or a cyborg, they aren't. Think of aliens as being 6 times as powerful, so that you might need six humans working together to take down an alien entity, so you see it balances things out. We're not saying it'll be easy to implement, most likely not, but it's an interesting idea that we'd like to try out.

    We certainly appreciate you all taking the time to have a look at the mod, and the valuable criticisms you've offered. Fact of the matter is that you can't say that NSO is an NS rippoff till you've played it, and we plan for you to be playing NSO for a long, long time to come!

    You'll have a hard time making a clan playable version if that's the case though. Get the whole clan together to play the human round but only Jimbo gets to play the alien round, sorry everyone else!

    Point being? We're also capable of paying for games we want....some of us more so than others, but hey, in order to play either you'll have to buy HL 2 in the first place.
