Annoying Problem

Map refuses to load?
ok, I have thuroghly checked the map (BC said there was a leak) and could find none... all I can figure is it is part of the secret room (that's the part I'm testing) that leads to the rest of the map (which is not attatched)

Now, my problem is, when I try to load the map to test it, it kills HL and crashes my PC...

I don't have any other info past that.. any ideas?

find ur leak, then worry about making it work =] leaks shud always be found straight away, otherwise they build up and that can make them almost impossible to find.

whats ur color depth in ns? and do u use software, openGL or directX?

coz i had a similar problem, but it was fixed when i found the leak

    I use Open GL...

never had this problem before tho 0o'

also, do I name the .bsp file NS, or the map ITSELF (in that case, WHERE) NS.. I dunno where to put either NS or CO at for hte name... 0o'

Follow it in the camera mode. Just fly around, you will see a leak where it passes from the outside to inside. Ignore it on the 3 x,y,z windows, its damn useless there. It seems to be in the small section of the map where the lines are. So just look around there with a fine tooth comb till you find it.

P.S. No need to post in the main forum as well as here, just keep it here

Kester has it right. Fidn the leak first, and theres a good chance it will fix your little problem with the loading.

I couldn't find the leak... HOW can there be a leak inside a bloody BOX is what I want to know

I replaced the entity floor with a real floor (no clue WHY it was a func friction) and it didn't work... meh... dunno WHAT is going on

I jsut tried another part of the map that DIDN"T have a leak error

IT TOO refuses to load... WTH?

BTW- I just encased the secret room in a box for now just to see what it looked like

find the red end of the line, thats the start of it.

then look inside ur box for where a red line enters (if it comes in then goes out of another bit of wall, thats not ur problem) u want just 1 line going thru the wall thats ur leak.

if u cant find it, go outside ur box, and get the red bit of the line, follow it till the end, when u've found the end, u will of just passed into ur box, where u did is ur leak

Yes i kno it sounds annoying, but things like this have to be done =[

I always start following the line from the blue end of the line. That way I follow it slowly becoming more and more red. Basically red means for me: RED -> Hotter -> we're getting closer the leak. If I'm not sure where the line starts and where it is going I start from the purple part between red and blue and then follow it in the direction it gets red..

Try changing hammer's background color from black to something else.. like yellow. Might help you locating the leak if you don't have much yellow in your map.

also i find using the .lin file rather than the .pts file is better for finding ur leak

in hammer, when it asks if u want to use the default pts file clikc no, then select the .lin file that corresponds to ur map

how do you generate a .lin???

If you give up on the pts file and have a few hours you can alwase cut your map in halfs until you find it

JLP: the .lin is auto generated by hlbsp. you can find it int he same folder as teh one your .pts is in.

    ROFL! I found the "leak"

damn hammer decided to re-size one of my walls so that it was maybe a QUARTER MILLIMETER off... that .lin file is a BIG help!
