Where Are The Maps?

<div class="IPBDescription">Millions of maps none in ns</div> Looking through the screenshot thread I've seen some of the most amazing maps I have ever seen using the the half life engine. Some of those maps show things I have never even thought about and they all look complete. Now, this the question of the thread. Why aren't they in NS? Are they just not being accepted or are they not done? I saw a ton of maps ready for download and they look like they would be awesome to play on. What happened?

Custom maps arent played as widely as normal maps simply because many people are too lazy to download, install, and (most importantly) learn new maps. It's as simple as that. If an official "Custom Map Pack" was created and advertised, and if more servers would run them, then this would be alleviated to a certain degree but in most cases the average player would prefer to stick to the "old favourites." which is a pity.

Also, it seems Beta 5 won't have much in the way of new maps, rather just updated existing ones. Now of course, new maps will be added in the future, so you're just going to have to be patient or simply stick to custom servers.

I doubt any new maps will enter beta 5, but who knows?

Flayra will not accept new maps until the next version is announced (3.1, which will probably turn into 4.0...)

Well, maybe there could be an exception if he really likes a map, but that doesn't sound very possible...

Yeah, at this stage there will only be updates to current maps.

I believe the Betas would be the time to introduce new maps and get them tested before the official 4.0 (or next version) release. Mainly because there are always bugs on maps and (for example) when V3.0 PB1 (I think) first came out I remember that you were able to walk throught the railings on ns_nothing. It would also improve the community because Flayra could then find out the maps which will and will not be popular for use in NS, and will save him considering to remove one.

It really would make more sense to add more maps for testing during one of the betas and when 4.0 is released they have some new maps that are solid rather than having an NS that is nearly bugfree and a bunch of maps that are ridden with them.

Personally, I think it would be a great gesture to the community of content creators if Flayra was more open about his plans for ns after 3.0 is released. Mappers spend a huge amount of time creating content for the game, and I feel like the devs have a responsibility to them to keep them updated on where its going. No one wants to invest hundreds of hours creating new content for a game that may be shelved to move on to bigger and better things. Particularly, I'd like to know if there is going to be another large client side update to ns after 3.0 in which new maps could be included.

Agreed. Information like that could be passed through the mapping community email group.
