other than mental help
ARRGGHHH!!

Ok, heres the deal. Got up this morning, windows was working fine. Took a shower, came back, Windows (98) froze, so restarted computer (had to do a hard restart)...

Now, I keep getting a message "Write Protection Failure (or fault, I forget, its been a long day), Restarting Windows" which it then proceeds to turn off the comp power. This is all in DOS type (i.e. before Windows actually starts). Like I said, I have Win98 (please don't make this a "This win version is better than that win version" thread) and if you need any more information I will try to give it to you. I am looking on the net for answers too but none have appeared, so I wil keep looking but any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hmm, might be something wrong with the automatic scan disk program that starts up when windows wasn't shut down properly.....just a hunch from the info I have been looking at

    1. (just to be clear without insulting your intelligence) is there a disk in the floppy drive?
    2. Have you made any changes to your hardware/software recently?
    3. Try to copy the exact error message and paste here.
    4. Can you get into Safe Mode?
    5. Do you have a floppy start-up disk?

Don't worry, my intellegence gets insulted on a daily basis....maybe I am just dumb

    1.Nope
    2. Not to my knowledge
    3. Can't
    4. Yes
    5. No, but I can make one

More information reveals that I might have the FunLove virus (oh....goody)...and since I don't have a disk I need to go buy one so I can download the program to fix it! YARR!

    /hooray for college computer labs

how can you get to safe mode if you get the error before windows starts?
when does exactly the error occur? before autoexec.bat ?

Or try and get ahold of a boot disk, so you can atleast access your data. Or try burning the removal program for whatever virus you think you have onto a disk, then running it while you are in safe mode.

Or of course you could do what the image says ;P
