1 thorugh 8 + extras ! :D

Mega Man Anniversary Edition came out today for PS2 and Gamecube! Hooray! For those that don't know, its Mega Man 1 thorugh 8 all in one package. Original graphics, original sounds, original music.

The gameplay remains virtually unchanged. They added the option of letting you hit Triangle/Y to fire a 3 round burst and also you can switch powers on the fly (I assume with L and R buttons) w/o pausing to go to the menu, which I kinda like the idea of. But if you are an absolute purist (or you want to pause the action to take your time in switching) these features can be turned off completely so the games play 100% identical to the originals.

One thing to note w/ the different versions of the game is while the controls are supposed to be responsive and etc, the button layout of the controller itself suits the PS2 controller moreso than the Gamecube one. Also on the GC version for some odd reason they made A fire and B jump.

Another thing that has changed (and isn't optional to turn off, unlike all other changes) is it saves to your memory card so you don't have to write down and remember stage passwords. I don't think anybody will be complaining about that one though.

As far as extras go, there are two Mega Man arcade games that were previously unreleased in the US. Nothing too special, but its just a little extra something. There are also some console-specific extras that you get. Gamecube version gets some developer interviews, while the PS2 version gets the first episode of the Mega Man cartoon + a completely remade soundtrack for all the games that you can turn on/off if you'd rather hear the original music (as I would). I've heard some of the new music while watching a Gamespot video and while they are great quailty they are just not as good as some of the OC Remixes. If they had paried w/ the OC Remix guys to put their music IN the game... ... I'd have less clean pairs of pants.

Also there is a version still in the works for you GBA owners, so if you prefer your mega man on the go you might want to hold out a little while. No word on what that one contains vs. the console versions.

Keeping in mind that the original Mega Man 2 on NES can go for $15-$20, and 3 for about $15, and 1 for $10-15, the price tag of a mere $30 makes the anniversary edition a very good alternative if you're a fiscally responsible old school NES fan. I think I'll be picking this one up later this week. :)

Well that's a no brainer for me I guess XD
I'll nab it for my PS2 if it ever comes out in the UK sometime within my lifetime... should do though or they'll have an angry screaming megaman fan on their doorstep who pretty much lived off MM's adventures throughout their childhood =3

Yet, I wish it had come out for PC. I have this kickass gamepad, which is much more comfortable in my hands than the old consoles' pads...
And maybe it could have included some MegamanX games then. Those were hot.
(Especially the charge-up sound not making your ears bleed)

There were only three copies of the game left on the shelf at my local store, and my brother now has one of them.

I got to watch two people actually fight over the last one...
    Then we ran.

    Whoa, not diggin' that.

I'd get this, but I'm not really a big enough MegaMan fan to go through the frustration of the last levels of those damn games. Stupid Wily!!!! Oh well, the MM2 Wily song is awesome, and everyone knows it.

As a testament to how pwn this game is, last night I was going into the levels and just sitting there while working on my laptop to hear the new soundtrack. It rocks. Gotta get it in MP3 format...

Not always. You guys got Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. The US never did. All we got was some crappy thing called "Snake's Revenge" that had nothing to do with Metal Gear, wasn't made by Hideo Kojima, hell it wasn't even made by Konami at all. And it was crap. And lets never mention it again.
