Its wonderful!!!!
I was sick of the marines swarming us from all directions on NS_Nothing, so I fought back with inginutity, check it out:
This works with all elevators and is great, not only does it stop the elevator where marines are on it, but if it is damaged it heals itself, I call it: "Jops' Self Healing Elevator Blocker", note I would only use defense towers but if those are unavailabe use movement because they stack just as well: Enjoy and tell me what you think

Edit: Grrrrrrrrrr the pic doesnt work, everytime I upload it says:
The requested file upload failed. This is either because it was not in the correct format, or the file size was larger than that allowed. Please check the file you wish to upload and try again.

how do I get past this?

anywho my idea is really still to build defense/movement towers up and up until the elevator cannont reach the level bellow, it works rather well, when I figure out how to get the picture up I will post it, thanx

thats sweet, but how do you build the towers on top of each other?

You jump to build the second one, but it normally doesn't go on straight so you have a little ledge to jump on from the first one, then when you are on the first one jump to build one on the second one and so on and so on, it really worked well for us and gave our hive a fighting chance.

Note: Make sure that you build the elevator blocker so that there is NO space for them to look at the floor below, this will prevent them from lobbing grenades down there, and also it doesn't matter if there is a grate on the elevator because they cant shoot through it, and even if they do hurt it a little if you build it with defense towers they can take care of themselves.

    Hope this helps,

    Jops,

Edit: And once I get this pic up you will clearly see what I mean, Im in school now though

are you converting the .bmp image to a jpeg in order to size it down some? .bmp format is huge compared to jpeg.

Sounds like a good trick to me!

I can think of at least one instance of when this was done during playtesting. I vividly remember getting extremely annoyed at this, and I was an alien -- when the elevator hits the blockade, a "Structure is under attack" message is sent to every alien! Needless to say, it got pretty irritating after a while. You'll also want to be careful not to block off your fellow aliens from getting where they need to go. Other than that, it's a nice, dirty means of keeping the marines at bay.

lol, yes, but easily taken care of by a smart commander with enough RP ...

    Siege anyone?
  • BTS_SquirrelBTS_Squirrel Join Date: 2002-09-27 Member: 1351Members
yeah, i didnt think about that. although that really would **obscenity** me off to spend all those rps as a commander just because of one pesky alien and his towers

Yes, but it isn't waisted RP.

Remeber, it costs builders RP too to build all those chambers.

Well the fact that marines can counter it means it isnt an exploit at least Quite a nice little strategy methinks

Its only a temporary solution they will evetually break through that little blockade.
  • TacticianTactician Join Date: 2002-02-19 Member: 228Members
Yes mutant, because if you could make a permanent blockade the game would be awfully boring.

Even though the post about this trick being an exploit was replied already, I would like to stress it that a damn big part of Kharaa success is making the Marines go "wtF?!?!" and back away. And I'm sure if furry animals with bony legs started spitting slime all over a spaceship, in time some things, like an elevator, just might not function, LOL!

Heh, I saw this in a game on ns_nothing... it was pretty annoying since I got redeemed into a hive completely "elevator-blocked" as an onos... Fortunately, the blockade was built with offensive cambers, which seems to fall through eachother when the elevator hits them...

hahahahaha i think flayra would be the last one to love this idea lol. i do the same thing with the door that swings down in some map (i forget which one) hah thats actually a wonderful idea. now i want to get home even more to play ns and try this out.

Yep, great tactic. It's also great for defense, you just stack a couple around the corner of a door and you have double the fire power taking up the same amount of floor space.

Can't wait to play tonight with offense chambers cheaper now.

I was probably doing it:) nothing is the best for it if done right you can completly seperate it from the outside with only one entrance.

Actually they found a way to counter it by dropping grenades on the elevator and letting it go, so I countered that by building extra defense towers (As much as possible) on the level bellow for triple the heal, after that it was a harder for them to take it out.

heres a tip for this tactic. make sure the elevator at least has space for a skulk to get through. that way they can climb through and evolve into whatever they want elsewhere.

Ive done this but this is bad because they can lob grenades down there too, in most maps there is always another way around if you are too big and in EVERY map there is a venting system for the smaller aliens. We played a game yesterday on nothing and dominated because they could only attack us from 1 direction while ignoring all of the marines saying:

    "THATS **obscenity**!"

    heh, punks.
