I've just sucessfully commed my first game. After about 4 losses or so, one game I jumped in the chair and just PWNED everyone. My top res count was around 300 in that game! Oh damn it was great. Next game, I was comm and then PWNED AGAIN! Then after the game the guy goes "Recoup, you're a great comm." and I told him I was a n00bie. Then after that, I was comm again, but I lost badly. However, my top res count was 500 RES! Christ! How I got that much, I dont know, we couldnt even hold those res nodes.

But anyways, just wanted to say I COMMED WITH SUCESS FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY!

    Congrats <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    However!
    If I remember some comms strat here:

    you shouldn't ever have 500 rez (unless you are saving for sometihng specific, like a PG/siege rush)

    If you got 500 rez get your troops something shiney (like better dmg/armor)

    Note: I am not actualy positive that this is still cannon for strats, but I remember it being so <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    again, grats and kep it up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    The 500 res, I dont know how it got there. Everything was upgrading, I had 20 shotguns on the field and welders, and we were trying to take The Pit (yeah I hate that map). Here is the demo I made about halfway through the SECOND game I commed. See how it runs.

    As has been said, you should never have more than 150 res saved. That's enough to kit 7 or so people out in HA with a variety of weapons. If you've got spare res drop packs of HA and/or JP in base ready for people as they spawn, they don't disappear contrary to popular belief. That means your marines can get back on the field asap instead of having to ask for kit first.

    As said, I have no more things to research, I got a ton of things on the field, and I can answer every call for an RT or med or ammo pack. There is just nothing we could do! Wait until HA or JP is researched, then go crazy, but until then you just have lotsa res.

    You got 500 res in a game without many res nodes because you weren't spending your res, which probably has to do with the reason you lost. Even if the marines are completely dominating they should never be retaining that much res unless the aliens completely suck and aren't even scratching anything you put down. After everything is researched and you still have extra money then spam the base with equipment and make sure everybody always has a weapon and HA or JP. If res is still burning a whole in your pocket then spam catpacks to get your HAs someplace faster, build turret farms to hold areas, spam mines, whatever, the point is that there's always something for marines to spend res on and it's a failure on the comm's part if he can't come up with anything.

    Congrats, but always be spending. I dont care how much is on the field WE WANT MORE DAMNIT! Make foward turret bases, phases to secondary locations on the map or every single RT. Swarm the hive with turrets then have sieges in range just incase that fails. MAKE THEM SUFFER WITH YOUR RICHES!

    Keep up with me guys! Like I said, I had everything in the upgrade manager running, shotties, supplies, HMG's, welders, the works being dropped in piles of 20, electrifying all my res nodes, etc, and somehow people expect me to come up with MORE reasons to spend res even though I was trying my hardest to keep things running. Once we got HA and JP's I still spent like the plague and I just had this HUGE res pool. However near the end when we died I had only about 98 left after spending a whole bunch... we had 2 failed hive assaults after putting up a phase gate and then HAing everyone on the team and arming them with shotties or HMG's or grenade launchers.

    Res wasn't the problem, I think. It was probably about base defense and/or poor tactics.

    He was getting 7 res a tick in the demo. That's not easy to keep up with for a new commander, but all the suggestions here were correct.

    Either way, good job with the comming!! Unlike me you mustered up enough courage to jump head first (?) in to the chair of blames...

    Yeah, at first I thought I was going to fail but I had a rather nice and supporting team, where they didnt say "OMG COMM YOU ****! YOU DROPPED A TF! I WANTED A PG! GOD! EJECT!"

    No actually if they wanted a PG and I said "not enough res" they would say "ok" and just go on. In fact if I gave them a shotgun or something, they would say "Thanks comm"

    Recoup could make out as one of the best starting comms.

    Why? It's quite simple : Which comm have I seen hold 7 resnodes for a game? Let alone a new commander?

    Although you have failed to keep your base intact in some games, you certainly have kept up the res pressure on the aliens.

    It would be good if you practiced a lot with spending res on some spare equipment though. Sounds like you were spending a lot but the res flow was to quick for you to burn. Simply put you were swimming in too much res.

    But to hold on to 7 nodes for one game, that's a rarity. Usually teams would hold about 4 or 3 resnodes each game, not 7.

    But I see you failed to mention the word 'Arms Lab' <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    keeping 7 nodes need`s either bad alien team OR

    Some good sense of surroundings luck and heck of a team!

    Were the alien team how good?

    Comm skills are very closely linked to rine skills. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> If I have a good team I used to wipe out the aliens, always have full upgrades hold all the nodes and everything even though I didn't play any differently to when I was with a bad team. It's just that either element being poor can slow the entire side down hugely.

    Extra-Res = Turret farm, build them in your base, in your outposts, even in random hallways. But strategy is strategy, I would like to try com my self, but I need a new headset since my current one dies after 5 minutes of gameplay.

    500 res with all possible upgrades, all possible marines totally kitted out, everything elec'ed and backup kits dropped! I appreciate it was one of your first comm's but I'd hate to think how long that game lasted. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just research catalyst pack (If you truely researched everything and every marine has something and all bases such as hive locations and double and so has like turrets a pg observatory electrification and so) and after you have catalyst packs researched hand out some hmgs,HAs, or so then spam catalyst packs (If it isn't against the server rule). Usally what I do at the end. *Also when I say spamming I don't mean to press like D and clicking all the time (D I believe is the hotkey for catalyst packs) I mean like dropping like a hand full in the marine's area and dropping more when you don't see anymore catalyst packs. Good for extremely fast onos,fade, and hive kills. Makes one marine become 2 marines in my opinion of what catalyst packs do.

    For the people who asked, the aliens WERE good, and the only reason I didnt bother with those res nodes falling in the south was because my ENTIRE team was already running towards the last hive. When I checked to see how many were left, and there were only about 2 or 3, I put the plan into action and just beaconed and made EVERYONE grab shotties and HA, and we phased to the hive and just pwned. Good stuff.

    7 res nodes is an achievment? Wow, good to see I'm loved!

    The alien team WAS good because if we didnt stick together they mauled the small teams, but once we had everyone grouped up then we were able to kill everything that got in my way. What mattered the MOST I think was that the marines actually LISTENED to my orders and didnt do what they wanted.
