NS_Earthbound
Ok, here we go! I got my map working ok on my laptop (little slow, but meh) but I am going to need some help on the finishing touches (things like HINT brushes and that... dunno how to use em yet ^-^(sweatdrop) )
Anywho, I've got 3 screenshots of three rooms in progress.

Climate Control (marine start) with a bunker
Freezer Hive (with inverse siege position BEHIND the spawn points, makes an interesting rush tactic)
Quasi Node Mountain (not named yet.. lol, but it's an icy peak with 4 res nodes on it, and a no-build for anythign BUT res nodes)

Do a google search for "HINT brushes" or something, and you should find plenty tutorials. I can give you a basic explanation here though: HINT brushes cut up VIS leafs. These leafs decide what you can and cannot see. So for example, if you're standing in a room, the game checks everything that you can see from this visleaf, and renders it. Sometimes, these visleafs will be really big, making the engine render more than what you can actually see. Take, for example, a corridor with a bunch of doors on each side, each leading into a room. The vis leaf for the corridor runs all the way along, so the engine will think you can see every room here. This might generate very high r_speeds. However, with hint brushes cutting up the vis leafs, the engine might only render a couple of rooms at a time.

Anyway, as I said, search for a tutorial, I'm sure they're alot better than my explanations

yes, I have 4 screenshots (3 normal, and a wireframe) of rine start... but I had to save em as .gif (onyl thing my laptop has ATM) so they are around 1.65 meg each 0o; and I dun have a host online... *crys*

I'm trying to fix em... but my picture it skills are not strong with the force yet *wheeps*

Yes, I know what HINT brushes do, just dun know how to use em

use the vertex tool. try not to do it with cylinders though, mainly because its hard to keep the faces straight. (theres only one face at each end of a cylinder, so the vertices have to all stay in line, the same happens if you move one verticie on a cube and you get dissappearing faces).

As soon as I can, I'll post up the updated ones...

But I have a request... I need a way to connect 4 pipes at 45* angles SMOOTHLY...

I tried to use the clip tool to do it... but I wound up with over 800 faces in a 2 P by 2 P by 2 P cube (where P = marine player height in UNITS) ... and about 200 invalid solid errors...

I'm now making my own but it looks VERY boxy...

    hmm... I'll try.

Perhaps I'll just stick with the square one I made... it's not the pertyest thing, but it works!

BTW- Kouji, I'll post up the new pics ASAP. I want your opinion on em I personally think it'll be a good map (maybe a small problem with the final assault, as onii cannot enter the bunker itself and rines/fades have to crouch)

Aw sh*t... my laptop is being funky now... i can only boot it up in safe mode. I'd just transfer all the map stuff over to my PC and re-format it, but the only way I can do that is via USB drive (it doesn't have a floppy drive, as I opted for a CD/DVD combo instead) and it doesnt' recognize my USB drive in safe mode...

D@MN@TION! Hours of work possibly down the tubes! YARGH!

Does anyone know how I could FORCE it to boot in normal mode? It will get about half way thru loading windows, then it freezes... not sure why. It just started doing this when I went to boot it up this morning...

Okay since you don't need to write to the disk, only to read, get Knoppix from here, burn it to CD, boot it and mount your windows partition somewhere, copy the files off and transfer them over a network (or your USB drive _might_ work with the 2.6.5 kernel in Knoppix 3.4). However, the 2.6.5 kernel isn't default, so if you can't figure out how to boot to it check the forums on knoppix.net. Or if you've never used linux... yeah check the forums. If you don't have a network, floppy drive OR usable USB drive... then you may very well be screwed

If it can connect to the internet in safe mode, you could always just upload it to a free webhost thing, or a friend, or DCC it to your other computer, or... etc. etc.

hmm... my best bet it seems so far is to try making a bootable CD...

Well, it's official. The LAPTOP is dead... the boot files are corrupted to hell...

THERE IS SALVATION for me tho! I found out that I might be able to salvage the files by disconnecting my laptop's HD and plugging it into my PC as an EXERNAL INTERNAL hard drive (IE, plugged into MOBO as a 2nd hard drive)

I SHOULD be able to get the files off of it! *looks up*

Can someone say a prayer in the hopes this works and doesn't short out my HD? Cause i dun know if it'll work or not 0o'
