Map cycles, advances, losses

Server or game descision
I wonder...how will the map cycles work in game, from what i have been reading it seems a time limit would be somewhat in appropriate. Then I thought, well, I wonder if the next map depended on who won the last map. I think it would be very amusing if the initial map in the server is kinda mid point I.E. the marines responding to some distress becon A la LV-426 stlye, then if they won, they moved to another planet in the chain of planets that the aliens have already taken, each one becoming harder to take. If the aliens won, they moved furhter along the marines planets, each one being a little more tilted toward the marines.

There could be three or four different main start maps, and those could cycle as they were fought over for variety, so it didn't always seem the same to start. Would be a little intersting, add some variety to the game, add an actual goal for people to shoot for during those long long hours of net play. It's an idea for a latter beta release if nothing else, and it could be server decided upon as well.

Damn Res....you stole the thought right outa my head. Well anyways, the only linear part (as far as I know) is that marines hate aliens, aliens hate marines, marines blow aliens away to oblivion and pwn them.(Others may have different feelings about this )

If the server hits the time limit in the middle of a game, it waits until that game has finished before changing to a new map. Flayra thinks of everything.

I think this might be really, really cool for a clan league or tournament, or even (dare I say it?) a single-player game. However, I don't know how well it'd go over in public servers, since games can already take upwards of an hour. I don't think the average casual player would really want to put in the time it would take to see which way the story goes, and I think the effect might be lessened a bit by players leaving and joining in the middle of the game. Still, it's something to toss around for a later version.

Flayra has already showed concern for finding a way to shorten game length. I'm sure he will come up with something.

Currently it's a timed server thing, however like fam said, it only changes after a round. So, some maps can be played 2-3 times before changing, or just once, depending on the game length.

Most games don't get to a point where it's unfun do too longevity. NS simply rocks.

yea I didn't know how well that might go over on public servers...especially since games seem to look like they could take quite some time. I suppose for the people in a server all day it would be nice...or at least tornaments however...one never knows. It's an idea at least since I've been playing a lot of CS and DOD recently...where it's mostly just the same map X number of times till it cycles. Which gets really...really repetative.
