<div class="IPBDescription">hELPPPPPPPP Ive tried different installtion exes</div>Hi, ive tried 2 different installtion exe and neither allow steam to detect the game (and yes i have restarted steam). I tried installing them into sourcemods the under the halflife directory too - default installtion locations. I downloaded this one here
<a href="http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/;50328#Download" target="_blank">http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/;50328#Download</a>
and still aint working. What should i do? Can i run the game form the command line? I own a copy of halflife and many other hl mod and hl2 mods. Is there a file steam uses to parse the games on the list, can i edit it in a notepad in ASCII format?

How do i fix the prob

Thx

    Can you check if there's an NS folder in: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\your-account\half-life

    C:\Program Files\<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Valve<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->\Steam\SteamApps\bmtom\half-life\ns

    and in

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\bmTom\half-life\ns

    and in

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\bmTom\half-life

    and in

    C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\ns\

    NON WORK!

    all games are in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\

    Don't know what the prob is. Can i add it to steam manually (editing a file with notepad maybe)?

    You can try a manual launch.

    Steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game ns

    There's only one place NS will work from and that's Steaminstalldirectory\SteamApps\Username\half-life\ns

    It could be valve or steam. whatever folder you named it when you installed steam. Steaminstall directory is the one with steam.exe in it.

    and in

    C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\ns\<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    This suggests you have 2 installs of Steam - one in c:\program files\ and one in c:\program files\valve\

    Maybe it's possible that that's confusing Steam, I dunno? Surely you only need one install of it, I'd delete the one you don't want and try from there.

    The very first Steam installers would point to /Program Files/Valve/Steam; the more modern ones omit the 'Valve' folder.

    My bet is that you have two copies and you're running the Steam.exe found in the /valve/steam folder. Try and remove the /valve/ install so you are only running the Steam version without the /valve/ folder i.e. C:/Program Files/Steam/Steam.exe.

    C:\Program Files\Steam only contains an installtion of ns, no halflife installtion. There is no steam.exe or any of files there except for the files for ns. C:\Program files\Valve\Steam is where all my games are. I only have one installtion of steam.

    I tried "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 70 -game ns and that loaded up halflife when I click find servers with no filter all the co_ and ns_ maps are there and no halflife maps. When i try to join them it says:

    You dll [cl_dlls\client.dll] differ's from the servers

    Im stuck.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

    edit: the only file/folder in valve is the steam folder

    If you're using the Steam browser, check that you're looking at servers with the same version of NS you have installed: currently there are 3.1 servers and 3.2 beta1 servers. If this isn't your problem, I'd try reinstalling NS:

    I would first delete the directory with only NS in it; you need to install NS to the same place you have Steam and Half Life installed.

    Next I'd delete any install of NS you already have in the "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\..." etc dir.

    Then I'd load up the NS installer and try again (make sure it points to the correct path, where Steam is installed, when you install NS).

    Launch HL1 once before trying to install NS...
