The name is genius though; it's controversy alone was a massive publicity nuke online and spread the word.
I buy my consoles for fun and partying; guitar hero, singstar, buzz, bomberman, marioparty, etc coupled with such coop delights as gunstar heroes and whatnot.
The virtual console for the Wii having Genesis/Megadrive titles just makes me even more giddy I mean HECK! One of the first games you'll be able to get is the ultimate coop platform shooter of all time: GUNSTAR HEROES!!! I love treasure for this gem of a game :3
I'm hoping square joins in so I can get secret of mana again and it's only a matter of time before sega probably puts the famous three parts of the Streets of Rage series on there somewhere XD

Love Nintendo, love the Wii and gonna buy it on release date.... but man! Nintendo sure likes to charge for every penny they can get! The console price is the lowest in a good while (I mean compared to the Xbox 360, the Wii is still like $200 cheaper).
But what got me annoyed was when I saw in a flyer today...
Wii $$$
Controller that looks like a TV remote $$$
<i>Nunchuck Controller</i> $$$
Standard non motion sensitive controller $$$
The remote and nunchuck are meant to be used TOGETHER but have to bought seperatly. How lame is that? Of course they COULD just let you use the Gamecube controller instead of having to buy another non motion sensitive one but meh, more money for them.
Anyway like I said I like the Wii, gonna buy it. But Nintendo is a huge penny-pincher.

Pulse, there's an add-on controller that looks like a classic NES or SNES (can't remember which). That's the 'classic' controller.
And Wii can be pronounced, they just have to pronounce it 'uii' instead. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
In case no one else noticed, Engadget has put up a video demoing some of the gameplay. Specifically Wii sports and a tiny bit of Zelda. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/12/wii-gameplay-video-wii-sports-and-the-legend-of-zelda-twilight/" target="_blank">Link (no pun intended).</a>

Erm, am I the only one to notice that for the price for a 360, you can get a Wii with 4 controllers?
But from what I've learned in the past, consoles are made to play by yourself. If you want to play multiplayer, you wait for the Wii to go online, in which case, you still will only be using one controller.
Nintendo a huge penny pincher... let's see, Wii's cheapest, cube's cheapest, DS is cheaper than PSP, Wii games will still only be $50, cheapest cube controller at $20... Er, wait a minute.

Smart business strategy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Only if they sell anything. The Gamecube and N64 didn't. Their last real console success (as in huge profits) was the Super Nintendo. That has been a while.
I don't think it's too much of a worry this time around LF; there's a lot of excitement over the Wii on the intarwebs and even amongst pretty much every gamer I know in RL. Infact I only know one person who hasn't said they're getting one but he's a closet nintendo-hater :p
Most people seem to be thinking of the Wii not as a 'main' console but as a secondary party console they'll buy along with either their 360 or PS3. The low price and fun control system really make nintendo's latest product safe in it's own unique lil niche while microsoft and PS3 battle over the 'old' market :o
I can't help but feel that if the Wii really takes off it may herald the splitting of the console market into the current type (which I'd call 'classic' or 'retro') and a newer sorta 'vr' one inspired by motion tech and whatnot like the wii :3

Eh, most of the people I know picked up a Cube. Crazy Taxi, F-Zero GX, Pikmin and Zelda cemented my buying one.
Definitely going to grab a Wii to go along with my compact PS2... the backward compatability will let me sell off my 'cube as a refurb or give it away as a birthday present to a poor buddy.
Fun story I thought I'd share. Went in today to pick up my reserve copy of Viva Pinata (for the wife, but after looking at it, I think I'll watch the wife play a bit), and I was talking to the manager of Gamestop.
Many GS stores are doing midnight releases Thursday night for the PS3, and midnight Saturday night for the Wii. In South Carolina, except for a few counties, blue laws (laws passed to enforce what may be considered "religious" considerations) prohibit the sale of certain products from midnight Saturday night until 1:30 PM Sunday afternoon (only groceries and gas are allowed, no alcohol on Sundays, period). Because of the fact Game Stop cannot sell the Wii until its launch, this Sunday, he will be opening the store at midnight to give out the 12 Wii's on preorder. Since he can't legally sell anything after midnight because of the law, no one coming to the midnight launch can buy anything. So the only way the preorders can pick up their consoles at the midnight launch is if they've paid for them BEFORE midnight.
In short, he's opening the store for twelve people who have preorders, and the twelve people can only get the Wii if they paid for it before the launch. So if no one has paid in advance, he's opening the store for nothing, because no one walking in can buy anything legally.

only thing i wanna know is can you and how do u plug up a wii without a actual "tv" but an lcd monitor and is it possible to do so without constantly unplugging it from my computer.

Personally, I plan to just hook it into my VGA converter box. Four composite AV (with associated audio) and a VGA passthrough so I don't have to unhook or switch cables around. Just press a button. Sweet little bit of kit, picked it up for $20.
Especially handy as I have it rigged to my second monitor (dual head setup) so I can just move anything I want to monitor over to the primary, and switch the second monitor over to video gaming mode. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Takes a little bit of getting used to (you see the graininess that usually blends away on a TV) but beyond that, zero lag... and I play a ton of rhythm games.
Can hardly wait to get the Wii in on the action, and give F-Zero GX a spin again.

If the Wii allows me to play the GC Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness (it sounds so cool), then I'll get one. Since it looks that way...I might be getting one - but probably in about a year. Everyone I know cares about the 360 more than the PS3 (except one crazy guy, who thinks Microsoft is evil and Sony isn't...).
Plus I've got to wonder if there's going to be a guitar hero 2 for the Wii...

Plus I've got to wonder if there's going to be a guitar hero 2 for the Wii...
