Why am I anti-painkiller?
Because I'm VERY aware of the body's ability to regulate it's own chemical production. And on a personal level, I wouldn't tempt my own body into changing that balance AT ALL. So I reserve medications (especially those that affect the brain) for the cases where the benefits clearly outweigh UNKNOWN risks.
Now, I realize that probably sounds a bit nuts, but I'm not completely off my rocker. I realize that there are diseases out there which absolutely require medication, and hell, on the subject of painkillers specifically; I got gassed when my wisdom teeth were taken out and was on codine for at least a week. Whooooooooo!
You might want to find out why your muscles are hurting in the first place...Since it doesn't seem to be console related, what do you do at work? What do you do at home? Have you been bending your thumbs awkwardly for no reason? Have squirrels been nibbling on your thumbs while you sleep? Is someone stabbing your thumbs? Do you strain your thumbs with any of your activities? These are all important questions (well, some of them, anyway).
There's quite a difference between aching and stabbing...so I'd have to ask which it really is. If it's a throbbing, aching pain I'd related it to when I had tendonitis in my wrist...in which case you'd want to take an anti-inflammatory painkiller/drug and ice it down occasionally. Muscle pain might be a sign of over worked thumbs or improperly stretched thumbs. I'm not sure how CT feels, so ...you might want to look into that as well.
As for brain freezes/"ice cream headaches" just press your tongue against the roof of your mouth. There's some weird response when the roof of your mouth gets cold that your brain thinks your whole body is cold...so just reheat that little part and the pain should go away.
...I once played Soul Calibur so much that I got blisters on my thumb (bah, DC analog stick)...still played it though. Woot, Soul Calibur, the only fighting game worth playing...ever.
Ya can't go wrong using the RICE method:

Rest

Ice

Compression

Elevation

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> I LIKE the way T_h_e_m thinks.........
