please to be learning how to consolidate
My tip, The "Add Reply" button doesn't start a new paragraph, it starts a new post. Don't confuse the two.

Actually, this depends what "Merge member's concurrent posts" is set at in <i>Settings for group: Topics, Posts and Polls</i>.
I've added these as I've thought of them, but yeah - it would probably be better if they were consolidated into one post, or at least categorized.
<img src="http://blackmage.org/bbs/src/1158351746497.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> - this button makes a new post.
<img src="http://blackmage.org/bbs/src/1158351759759.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> - this button makes a new thread.
it is very important to know the difference between the three.
<img src="http://blackmage.org/bbs/src/1158351665862.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /> - this button edits a previous post.

Again, you can attempt to make a new post, but the board setting might prevent it depending on what "Merge member's concurrent posts" is set at. Therefore, if you posted less than "X" number of minutes within your last post on the same thread, you would, in effect, edit the last post instead.
So, in essence, unless the user knows what this setting is set at, he could easily expect to edit his last reply but in fact create a new one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />
Unfortunately im_lost, it <b>IS</b> implemented. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />

So you saw it happen somewhere else? All I see is that you have two consecutive posts in this thread 14 minutes apart that clearly didn't get merged together.
I do not know what their setting is here.
I can't wait for TWG to start back up!
Someone get on it!
Spammer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> Good tips though, but I would recommend putting them all in one post lol.

Posts consolidated, thanks Comprox! <img src="http://www.nsmod.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/clapping.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

I'm confused. The post you are replying too has disappeared from the thread, and even though you have a direct link to it in your quote, clicking the link results in an error message.
also: we're on 2.1.6 not 2.16, fyi.

Sorry for the confusion. I asked Comprox to consolidate my posts here which resulted in your issue.
What we were discussing was the merging of concurrent posts. If you post in a thread, then post again in the same thread within "X" minutes, your two post will be automatically merged. IPB default setting is 10 minutes.
It seems that everytime I exit out or just click a the link back to the forums, I have to click "from the beginning" again, and it gets really annoying.
Edit: There are also a lot of things "missing". The find user's post option and so is missing from a player's profile. Like many people have said, the user groups are missing, as well as admin names not being orange/bolded. Mods names are orange, but it doesn't appear admins are or others.

Ahem, Nem0 holds the record in spam with over 12,000 posts. Postcount +1 ftw.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
"Find user's post" is still an option on v2.16 as noted below and has either been deleted by the webmaster or results from a skinning issue. I will report it to them.
<img src="http://www.ugleague.org/img/offsite/members_profile.JPG" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />
"Group Name Indicator" is a forum mod that shows the name of each group and its color on the footer of the board index. It is not currently in use on this board, but is easy to install if the powers-that-be desire to do so. <a href="http://www.nsmod.org" target="_blank">modNS</a> is just one of my boards that use it (put your blinders on - there is a rainbow of colors with so many groups).
Admins names not being colored/bolded is due to an AdminCP setting for that particular usergroup.
I've just noted another bug and reported it: users do not have the ability to CC their PMs.
short story: depot thinks that everyone uses the configs that he does
long story: depot is silly because thinks that everyone uses the configs that he does even though some applications of forum systems require that doubleposts be allowed and should press the "edit" button to edit a post because the setting is clearly an anti-stupidity feature (that doesn't work on his special brand of it)
also: we're on 2.1.6 not 2.16, fyi.

I have mentioned different scenarios here and have never assumed this board uses the settings I have on any of my three boards. It is a new feature and fits within the context of this thread.
The mods may or may not decide to enlighten us as to what this setting is on this board. We know it's less than 14 minutes and more than 5 minutes, and I'm speculating it's set at 10.
My purpose was to make users aware of this, since few are. I have therefore succeeded. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
Until then, except for the basics we're pretty much in the self-taught mode. Hence the purpose of this thread. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Why the bitterness toward someone pointing out the useful features?

Black Mage is filled with bitterness and hate.
Yeah, I think that list of stuff was kind of interesting and useful.

Thanks for the tips Depot, this certainly will be helpful to new users to IPB.

Thank you. I hope to add many more tips to the first post. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
