Actual 5.1 sound is rare tbh. Most likely it's actually going to be 5.1 stereo, not actual surround sound. Get a nice pair of 2 very loud speakers. Possibly a subwoofer.
I have a pair of Harmon-Kardon speakers that are so old that they may or may not currently have hieroglyphics etched into them. They're decent, and they're still alive, so I'm happy.
I prefer a good headset for first-person shooters, while speakers are great for everything else. It's fun to plug your Gameboy into the speakers; you actually hear the bass fill everything out in games with good music (cough... Fire Emblem).

The 2.1 version that scorpion is not referencing rock just as hard and don't try to emulate surround sound, if your video card doesn't have digital outs. :-)
Logitech X-530's for the win, and the wonderful sound at a price you can't beat coupled with stellar, and pretty, design. Big brothers to my Z-640s, which pwn.
