i hate ea because: they dont care about patched and just plain **** on their customers, you have to see that frikken EA challenge everything, EVERYTIME you start up you cant esc.
they tried to buy Ubisoft, their allied to nVidea they bought the NFL rights, just so more people will buy their game which sux, they keep spitting out expansion packs/ 05/06/07/08 games that has no new content, plain sux and cost tons of money.

Not exactly a stellar product; it's selling more on name than anything else.
DICE has also joined the ranks of the 'evil empire' after hiring on Trauma studios, the Desert Combat mod team... then taking their franchise rights, shafting them $200,000 on a contract loophole, and offering them jobs in Sweden (a **** deal however 'friendly' it may sound).
EA has a history of buying studios and closing them down, retaining only the franchise. They've done this with some high profile ones, and this greatly upsets people as the results are pretty poor.
Over time, EA's older talent has migrated/jumped ship (some leaving the industry entirely out of frustration of their current conditions), leaving EA's hiring policy to fill the gaps with young naive college students and first-timers. People convince themselves that's the only way game development works and either deal with it or, again, leave the industry entirely. Thankfully I already had my offer here when a guy from there called me about openings they had.
EA's apparently hostile takeover bids against Ubisoft have put some negative light on the company as well. Ubi is a big player in the industry and it can be assumed EA is after the franchise rights to farm out to their internal studios.

As it appears Valve wanted the deal and was not forced by EA, I'm guessing the reason EA is hated for their hostility. That's the thing, this deal involves none. EA surely gave Valve exquisite moneyhats the like the world has never seen (<!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) and will be putting boxed versions of the game on shelves. Valve still develops the game, Valve still publishes the game, but EA just slaps it in a box and takes a little cut of the retail sales. It's a far better deal than Valve had before, it seems, and while surprising, it's nothing to freak out about. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

They probably don't know any better, if you remember, they were with VU.
Also, what reputation? Congratulations, you've made 2 games, one being a total fluke and the other than would've sold in the millions if the whole game was just Gabe Newell doing a striptease, lubed up with chicken grease, to austrian ska.
If you ask me what makes me dislike Valve, i'll tell you, it's the flipping fanboys. SHUT UP. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
You know why I love VALVe? Because you are hypocritical enough to love HL2 when it came out(check your posts back then), but decide to flame them now purely based on other people's opinions. THANKS FOR MAKING PLENTY OF SENSE
Well, you see, it IS a problem actually. Anything that comes into my house with EA on it automatically catches fire for some obscure reason. That's not just something with the EA logo on it, but also books with the letters EA consecutively on the cover.
I have to store my copy of Battlefield 2 under water. Highly annoying.

Funny you bring that up. My friends and I always joke about a great war between Google and Starbucks seeing as they're both building vast empries.

A LARGE part of my life is now published by EA.....my childhood is burned at the stake.
People don't like EA mostly because they have a reputation for treating their employees poorly and because they bought exclusive rights to make NFL games. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So Americans do not like the fact that EA takes their favourite sport and makes, in their opinions, a sub-standard game? Way to hold a grudge guys, grow up and get over this guys.
Just for the record I agree with Esuna's comments about Valve games. I bet there is not many people that can remember flops like Pharoah.
*EDIT: Spelling mistakes. Littered with them 'til this edit. Tired, lol.
they tried to buy Ubisoft, their allied to nVidea they bought the NFL rights, just so more people will buy their game which sux, they keep spitting out expansion packs/ 05/06/07/08 games that has no new content, plain sux and cost tons of money.
**** EA?
You're one to talk about hypocrisy. Honestly though, this is a sales industry. EA represents profit that Valve wants in on.

(hey, Pharaoh was good, and I'm not sure it was a Valve game, just published by Sierra)
Brand name recongnition.
Most "casual" console gamers (LOL HOO AER U TO DECIED WHO SI A KASUEL GEMAR!!!!!) are probably unfamiliar with the Half Life franchise. They will, however, be familiar with EA.

btw, Thaldarin, the reason we all hate EA:

Metalcat: So Valve are better than EA after releasing Opposing Force & Blue-Shift? Seems like they both use the same marketing tactics to me. Buying out developed modifications seems pretty popular by Valve too, maybe EA will start to catch on to that too.

So someone doesn't know their human rights acts and continues to work at EA? Stupidity from that person really, EA Spouse does nothing but tell me how a worker is being exploited from doing nothing about his situation. I am not reading the latest update either as it disinterests me.

Thaldarin, you're thick, aren't you?
Abusing human rights is ILLEGAL, let alone unethical. If this isn't a reason to hate them, I don't know what is. Not to mention, one thing ea_spouse forgot to say, is how the gaming industry is one of the hardest to get into, let alone stay in. Its damn hard to do it. Many skilled people spend years trying to get a job in the industry- you need a large amount of luck, and you gotta know lots, and lots, of folks. And with EA snatching up seemingly every dev in sight, its a wonder that I even have to explain this to you.

I know it is illegal. The case still stands if you do nothing about your work environment but moan and whinge to people anonymously online, then you only bring it on yourself.
Developed by a still external third party studio, DICE. EA is making efforts to buy said studio, but they've been blocked so far.
Also, BF2 has had shoddy patch support and is riddled with bugs, including a major memory leak that prompted a patch 'recall' and reportedly was only tested on high-spec machines, meaning the 'fix' patch apparently did nothing.
But if you're going to just blame it on people being American as you do with everything else, I suppose this brief rundown won't make a difference. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyway, if EA is abusing human rights, just quit your job, report it or whatever and stop whining.

That's the sort of information I like. Rather than the NFL one where I can blame it on Americans.
I now understand why EA Games is badly thought upon and quite honestly I don't blame anyone for not liking them. Although being said, don't hate them for joining up with Valve. As it appears Valve wanted the deal and was not forced by EA, I'm guessing the reason EA is hated for their hostility. In this deal there appears there was none, so why are people going on and on about it?
Now if only we can get others to realise the point.
