Automate gear is the most expensive one
while manual is cheaper,
what would you prefer your country to use? what do you think about your countrys gear type compared to the other?
i will start by saying that automate gear is for people having trouble driving a car but maybe im biased living in europe

I would say I'd keep my automatic - it's much less of a hassle to drive. I will say that MTs are more fun though. ^^

Truth, though I'd go Manual just for the added control.
If I had a car, it'd be a MT...since I just like shifting <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Not a big fan of the clutch though.

In my day all drivers education classes taught students on manuals. Manuals were much more common back then, and one could always drive an automatic if they knew how to drive a standard, but not the other way around.
In my millions of miles of professional driving I man-handled a 10 to 12 speed manual mostly. Therefore my personal vehicles have always had an automatic in them.
Performance would lean towards the manual as it's of lighter weight and would suffer from less slippage.
In the U.S., fewer than 10 percent of cars are purchased with manual transmissions.

You'll have a shorter life breaking the law, actually: it shaves off years from your life span (I'm serious). And what highways go through your area that are 55MPH Maximum? It's 70MPH in my area.
Really, I think people forget that the Speed <b>Limit</b> is not the Speed <b>Requirement</b>. A speed limit of 45MPH doesn't mean everyone should go <b>at least</b> 45MPH. It means that 45MPH is the <b>fastest</b> everyone should be going.

No, but you should be going <b>near</b> that. (Within 1-3 MPH, in my opinion) A little over, a little less, no problem. But when you start slowing down/speeding up a lot, then it's pretty dumb.
There are actually three different transmission tyes:<ul><li>Manual(first one to appear)</li><li>Automatic(This includes the triptronic which is simply a fancier automatic)</li><li>CVT (Newest one and no longer has gear teeth)</li></ul>If you wish to read about them.. and all of their advantages and downfalls, although CVT has almost none.

I'd also like to point out that most automatics today are just about as efficent as the manuals, you are only losing about 5 to 10 HP(kw or whatever you euros use) and about 10-15 ft lbs of torque. Which in a real world setting is next to nothing. (Read maybe 1 to 4 mpg better with a manual).
In addition, most autos shift faster then any manual driver could, especially under extreme conditions (heavy acceleration onto interstate/highway).

I have never heard that it's illegal to switch after learning on an auto. It's just harder to get the hang of it in the beginning. Cops may tend to be a little more leinent if they pull you over for something, although that may just be in smaller towns.
As to the speed limit thing: It pisses me off when people are going 5 miles an hour under. Its even been confirmed by the local police department here that its less of a limit, and more of a "Reccomendation". Be somewhere around it. Going 5-20 miles under it just pisees off everyone around.
And sure, I'm not in a absolute hurry, but I don't wanna spend 3 extra years of my life in my car.
