You could play maps that are imbalanced if you could pick your hive. The reason the same "3-4 maps" are always played is because they all have mostly good hive locations. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Damn, and here's me thinking Maintenance (Eclipse), Pipeline (Veil), Biodome (Origin), and Waste (Tanith) are just as good as the other hives on those maps.

What about a middle road solution; allow teams to pick what hive they <b>don't</b> want?

if an alien team gets to choose their hive at the beggining of the round what will happen is they will almost always choose the best one

so the marine commander will automatically know where they are without even having to scan or send a marine out.

but if they choose an inferior hive, they are still gimped in the way they would be under the random system and would still be complaining about it afterwards

as someone way back in this post once said, there needs to be more balanced maps.

just as mappers are not supposed to design their maps to balance the gameplay problems, gameplay should not be changed to balance mapping problems

Commanders dont waste scans or marines on finding out a hive, they listen at the start of the game.
