Ah The Good Old Days...

...are returning
Well I hate to say it but there are fewer and fewer ns servers up these days, and you know what I like it. Almost every ns game I play has people who want to be there, who work together as a team, no one blames the comm for losing anymore, the only problem we do have is a slight lack of people who want to be comm.

While I hope the recent lowering in the number of ns players wont lead to its death, I'm still gonna enjoy things while they are this good.

(thought we needed a happy slant on the current events of co and other games stealing ns players away)

I'm not too worried about NS. NS is the best looking game on the HL engine, imagine what it'll look like on the source engine. And I know that there are many many gamers who run in droves to pretty looking games.

is that a jab at me haze? I spam the mic for several reasons(entertainment being one of them), and I personally dont believe that me spamming the mic is detrimental to the teams efforts [unless they SUCK] :/

Eh? No I really do spam the mic and I'm friggen clueless. I find other guys that like to **** off and we go around on little rambo missions, sometimes winning by killing the hive.. but thats rare.

same here. to me it seems like ns is becoming more and more like counterstrike, as in im seeing a lot more hackers (and yes i do have demos for them that prove beyond a reasonable doubt they are), newbs who have NO IDEA how to play the game, jackasses who diliberately ruin the game, n00bs who spam ocs or turret farm/minespam to insane amounts, people from co (they dont help the team at all/res****/become a gorge and has 100 res and refuses to make anything/type /menu or /buildmenu and ask "how do u get a gun"), or are otherwise cheap as hell (such as going onos/ha/sieges/farmage in a 1 on 1 game)

ns has become too big for its own good, as more and more of the backwash and scum of the internet wash over our once nice community.

And to think... on the first day of 1.0, I was worried because there was only one Comm, and that people would be rushing the chair to see who could hop in first. :b

I remember when it was a rush to the com chair, and usually whoever spawned closest was the winner.

Too bad the newness of a game engine isn't a good metric by which to judge a game.

Yeah apparently after two years of playing I'm accused of haxing too with some undeniable proof demo which I don't even get to see. Funny how that works. Be careful with the witch hunting, some people just need a word or two said to'em.

That said I agree with the topic starter in that I've had some really nice games over the past few days. But I'd rather have both a big community and good games

I'm not so sure about 'the good old days'. Those of us who were there remember it was mostly exactly the same.

The fact we ended up with ten times as many servers as the community actually needed was probably a bad thing, but does show how popular the concept of NS is, especially amongst those gamers who are able to afford/put up servers (i.e generally the older players, but that's just a rule of thumb.)

We'll see. I think the game needs to develop a bit more, and then some serious effort put into promoting play. Of course, it's not actually the teams responsibility to encourage players, that should occur through communities and the addictiveness of the game itself, but if it helps, it's worth doing.

    Just some idle thoughts.

well if I can fix my pc and whack a server up, and then convince myself its worth doing (and also possible) then yeah Ill do it. But right now I got other things to do.

In my experience a larger community has a slightly larger percentage of people who can ruin a game, so yeah im liking things small the way they are.

You should come by to my server sometime.

It is interesting though how, as I hop from one server to another, how the quality of the game seems directly proportional to the number of icons present (regs, admins, consties, etc.)

They're actually coming back. Evuras and Stoneburg have started playing a lot on the server recently, Ebag's back and is an admin, and you've got the old standbys like Garret, Panzerfaust, and Nadsy.

haha it's all right...just wait and see if regular HL ever goes open source. then we'll start to have all the crazy engine mods that are out for quake pop up all over the place.

but, i actually kind of agree on the subject of ns_* servers getting better...even though i generally don't play "typical" maps, it is start to get a bit more like the good old days. i still miss the "/stuck" plugin, though...
to the devs - think that /stuck could be implemented in to a regular release of NS, so that i can keep experiencing the nostalgia? ;D haha

People would try and get commanders ejected just so they could try it out.

A popular phrase today at the start of the game is "not it"

I play on NSA servers alot, I don't see much changing
except for the fact that the commander position is generally
less of a "want" then before, when everyone rushed into it.
Commander blame is less than the old days...teamwork
    has gone up a bit.
