Darn Pc's! This Is Why I Love My Mac.

<div class="IPBDescription">Need help again.</div> Kay, as you may or may not know, I just reinstalled windows on my PC.

Now, I got all the latest drivers and firmware and what not (may not have the latest for my Mobo, mainly because I'm to lazy to reopen the beast.) Anyways, everything was going fine... Until I noticed something...

My CD-ROM is being a ****.

Now, I had this weird thing where, if the CD-ROM started to spin up, all audio would skip around and visual would become choppy. Long story short (and lots of trial, error, and cursing.) I fixed the problem by getting new IDE cables.

Well, it's back. I know it's not the IDE cables this time, in fact, I have NO IDEA what's going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay... So I checked my cables again, everything was fine. It's not the HDD, it's definately the CD-ROM...

Okay... Just installed latest drivers for mobo, still no fix.

Someone please help... I need this comptuer for BF2!

    Disabled Digital Playback, no dice.

Check your settings in the Device manager. Though you'd think it be a connection problem with something like this.

If it's only for one CD, that CD is probably dirty. In any case, try to clean both the drive and the media.

    It's all CD's.

There are no loose connections, I've run diagnostics on the drive and mobo, everything checks out, I have no idea what's going on.

Edit: For the record: This is a Samsung SC-148C (b105) (48x). Iff'n I can't get this to work (This drive has given me nothing but problems in the past) I'm just going to go buy a new one tommorow... Sigh... Computers suck sometimes.

Also, Samsung NEVER released freaking firmware for this drive, in fact, they discontinued it about a year after it was released, for good reason probably.

Sound like your CDROM drive has gone to Silicon Heaven mi'laddio.

Go out and spend some pennies on a new one...

Failing that, get a lens cleaner...

    Play it with your mac

    j/k <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Have you tried to disable DMA on the device ?

In control panel -> system -> properties -> hardware -> device manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI -> select the IDE on wich the cd-rom is connected (primary or secondary) -> properties -> advanced settings -> select the correct device ID (device 0 or 1) -> and change the transfer mode to "PIO".

Works with my crappy PHILIPS 1640.

If it doesnt help, sorry, and don't forget to change it back to "DMA if available".

Yeah, Yeah, I know, you guys have some sort of vendetta towards Apple computers, I personally love my Mac for all things not gaming related.

Anyhow, I know it's not my sound drivers because I reinstalled three different sets, I also reconnected all the cables, replaced them (again... man I gotta know where I'm getting them all from, I have like a shoe box full of them.) I switched what spot the CD-ROM was on, same problem. I think the thing's just dying. (Please note, I pretty much have the same configuration as the computer before I reinstalled Windows on it, some newer drivers for my video card and Mobo but that's it.)

Bah, this is stupid, I go to get BF2 and ahve to get a CD-ROM instead (Gonna get a Combo drive hopefully, any suggestions?)
