Anyways, haikus are usually not in a 5-7-5 pattern - check out some of the works of the masters (Basho etc. etc.) Most haikus are not simple prose split into three lines. As a matter of fact, in many haikus, each line will be a completely autonomous thought.

Follow the standard until you're flawless, THEN you can deviate from it.
