    The hacker apparently used brute force to find a password and logged into an account with permission to move and delete forum categories.

    Im guessing the password was a real word and he just used a dictonay attack on it to get it so quickly unless you didnt notice the site being hammered for a while while it ran the brute force =/

    Depends if the devs store their conversations/notes/planned updates etc on private boards... so it could potentialy be harmfull

    Well, that's not exactly what I've meant. Let's pretend there is a corporation who develops a completly new project, like a game, someone hacks their server and gets the sources etc. and delete them. The corporation would lose very much money. But you don't have to steal it, you can just steal the idea.
    Since Natural Selection is free, it wouldn't work.

    Brute Force or Dictionary attack can't be called hacking, really. A cracker uses brute force if he really don't know anymore how he can hack a server.
