Steam/ns Is Jacking Up My Comp

Hello,
Everytime it seems that i play NS on Steam, it does something screwy to my comp and I can't use the comp normally after i quit out of it. The most common problem is it will disconnect my DSL (all of the little bars are still green, it just wont acces the net and the comp will alert me to limited or no connectivity) but some more severe problems include: not being able to run any kind of game or program (it will give me a [insert name of program] has encountered a fatal error, click ok to terminate program) extreme slowdown, the alert i am missing certain Direct x9.0c drivers, and even crashing [blue screen of death]. I do not know if others are experiencing these problems but i have narrowed it down to NS. I held off playing steam for a week and it ran just fine, then i never played NS for a week and it ran just fine (i still used steam) but the moment i started playing NS again, i began experiencing these problems. I do not know if there is much you can do about this, maybe i am missing a critical patch for steam?? I just thought i would come to you first.

Help!!!
Uberdude

(P.S. It is NOT my comp, I'm running a brand-new Alienware Area 51 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    Same here! I don't know why... but sometimes when I log into a server, it suddenly disconnects from the server, and I see that little 'network connection disabled'. It actually DISCONNECTS me from the internet each time I do that. No spyware, no viruses, no trojans, no open/vulnerable ports. Only when I sometimes try to access a server. It seems to be cured now... but I still have the problem of logging into a server, and having it back me from the game instantly with no reason. I try again, same thing. I don't get it!

    UberDude, go to <a href='http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx&e=9901' target='_blank'>Micro$oft</a> and download directX9.0c, then re-install it.

    This appears to be an operating system problem, it crashes when you run ns becuase its calling for more intensive graphical calculations, which relates to directX

    So reintall it, give that a go, if that doesnt work has it worked ok in the past?

    Raziaar, Not sure tbh, when you get booted from the server open your console window with ` key and see if you can spot a disconnect reason.

    Raziaar, often you get kicked on entering for servers with reserved slots which you have not reserved. Happens to me alot on larger servers, like NSArms lab and even I AM clan ones. but yes opening console will tell you if its an error, or if the server actually gave you a reason for the disconnect.
