Mantrid - 2 (Snidely, brute force)

Mantrid, did you even look at what was happening before you voted? Your vote doesn't seem like a throwaway vote, it created a 3-way tie.

Not to mention that one of those tied people are you yourself...

I'd suggest you take a quick gander at some of the previous games; this looks, don't take it badly, like a simple newbie error. I'd just like to take the opportunity to declare today's voting 'botched'. I'm going to bet that more than 50% of the people who already called someone out will change their opinion until the polls close.

Crap, now I have to try and save myself... Well, one of the people voting for me is using it as a throw away, so I guess I'll take the cowards way out and change back to BadKarma.

I posted my reasoning a while back. It's not that I think you're a wolf, it's that you're one of the most likely people to be a wolf (in my opinion, of course).

I think that all of us need to back down a bit. At the moment, none of us have any hard evidence to support a voting. Unfortunately, one of us has to go, but jumping down each others throats will only help the wolves and hinder the humans. We are in day three now, and we really need to at least try to vote with some intelligence, rather than just randomly.

I'll post a more in depth analysis of some people tommorow, but i really need to get some sleep now.

I'm going to change my vote to Talesin. I agree with im lost on this, Talesin seems *really* suspicious (and as I said in an earlier post, why vote for the one with the most votes if you fear you might not be able to make it later?). This will also create a two-way tie, possibly saving BadKarma (I don't find him very suspicious, a bit; yes, but not more than Talesin).

Muffin Man says we need to back off. Not so! We need to consolidate our votes. Right now, as far as I can tell, the humans don't know whether to **** or steal second. All the votes are spread, cept for Talesin and myself. So, the two main suspects are Talesin and me. Talesin is one of my personal suspects, Nem being the other. Myself, I don't care if I do get lynched. I don't have any role, i am essentially fodder for the cause. If I die, don't forget about Talesin or Nem.

I was just saying that random votes every 15 minutes does nothing to help the humans, but that does not matter now.

To be honest, your last post came off as a bit aggressive. Certainly more aggressive than a human player should be this early on in the game. I can sympathize with Talesin a bit, as working on demand can be very tough. Therefore, I am voting for badkarma. No offense mate, but I think that Talesin has a valid excuse for his relative inactivity, while you seem to be to be a bit more suspect to me.
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
Talesin's inactivity isn't the problem, not by itself anyway. It's the fact that he jumps on a bandwagon every time he is around, then disappears. It doesn't make any sense.
  • SkySky Join Date: 2004-04-23 Member: 28131Members
Neither Talesin nor BadKarma's acting wolfish. BadKarma's actions are too reckless to be that of a wolf's - much like slacky and Mouse from last game - and Talesin is just another victim of real life and suspicions about inactive people, because I really haven't seen any real arguments against him.
So, in the interest of keeping my vote from lynching people I sincerely doubt are wolves, I'm going to randomly vote for TheMuffinMan. You randomly voted for me once before, now I'm returning the favor.

Actually, you must be mistaking me with someon else. I have not voted for you yet, as i have tried to avoid voting randomly. I know that neither badkarma or Talesin are acting wolfish, but at the end of the day someone needs to be voted off and no one else is acting very wolfish either. "A computer console doesn't just explode. This isn't Star Trek you know."
brute force was digging around the remains of the mangled center console. Eventually, he triumphantly withdrew a small piece of debris from the wreckage. Cold NiTe squinted at the little blackened thing between brute force's fingers, but brute force answered his question before he could ask: "Remains of a detonator cap. Somebody planted a bomb in there. And I think I know who."
Cold NiTe waited for him to continue, but he didn't. "Yes? Who?"
    "Well, the formtakers of course!"
"Oh. Oh, now I get it. Yes, of course. But we still don't know who they are."
"No we don't," said Snidely, who had just been listening so far. "And where did they get explosives?"
"Well, I've seen detonator caps like this one before, which means that it was made by humans. But they couldn't have gotten into the weapons lockup without setting off a shipwide alert. Nevertheless, this is no time to make broad assumptions. Better go check."

brute force didn't quite know whether he was supposed to be surprised that the door to the weapons lockup was ajar. Somebody had managed to break into the weapons lockup - no small feat on its own - and furthermore avoided setting off the alarm, which was a far harder task. What did not surprise him at all was that most of the explosives, munitions and weapons were missing. It was probably sheer luck that the lockup hadn't yet been completely cleaned out.
Snidely scratched the back of his neck and mumbled: "This is quite bad, isn't it?"
"Yes it is. We can assume that the formtakers are armed now. As if they haven't been killing us off fast enough," Cold NiTe replied. "I think we should arm up, then destroy the rest of these weapons before they get ahold of them too."
"I agree," said brute force, "and I suggest handguns. Rifles won't do you much good in close quarters. You also run less risk of penetrating the outer hull, since the muzzle velocity is far lower on pistol cartridges." Under his breath, he added: "It's not like I expect rookies like you to hit your intended targets anyway."

BadKarma had been searching the ship far and wide before he found Talesin in the last place he would have expected him - lieing on his bed in the crew quarters. He seemed relaxed, but nevertheless got up into a sitting position when BadKarma came in.
"Any progress on those blood samples?"
"None. I already told you people, it's no use. I have nothing to go on, short of cutting you all open and looking inside to see what makes you tick."
BadKarma stared at him. Talesin groaned. "I'm kidding, man. Not that I think it would really help. The formtakers can imitate blood, chances are that they can imitate anatomy as well."
"Yeah, about that. You said you didn't find anything in the blood. But what about those skin scrapings? They must have told you something of our unwelcome visitors. See, I was thinking. Although they were violating due procedure, maybe Renegade and Freak83 were onto something with that sensor array. They were amateurish about it, of course. If somebody with my knowhow would benefit from your medical expertise, maybe we could somehow calibrate an array to search specifically for cells like the ones you found."
Talesin gave him an incredulous look. "You'd try scanning for objects that small? Look, I know you're the expert here, but I happen to know that you'd have to increase the resolution far above what the human body could withstand. Wouldn't you kill us all outright?"
BadKarma had a look of concern on his face. "Not outright. We'd have a few weeks left, and we could make it to the depot at Barnard's Star in that time. They'd be able to treat us."
"You're nuts. I'm not helping you to kill us all." BadKarma began to protest, but Talesin lay down on his bed again very demonstratively. "And that's final."

im lost and Mantrid had gotten a few mattresses from supply room three and had spread them around their little hideout, making it a quite cozy place. Hellfire3k was still busy with the gravitational core together with TheMuffinMan, so the two were alone. im lost had even brought a little music player, and Mantrid was trying to set up a makeshift infrared alarm system that would alert them to anyone trying to intrude. Until the crisis could be solved, they would at least be as safe as they could.

"We'll head for Barnard's Star then. It's close by, and they certainly would be able to help us."
"We'll be dead long before we get there. I still think we should take another look at the alien ship."
Nemesis Zero and Sky were on the bridge, arguing about the next step to take. So far, neither had been able to accomplish anything except getting mad at each other. Sky had noticed Pulse walking in, and turned to him: "Pulse, you've been inside the alien ship. Didn't you see anything that might help us?"
"How? Everything was written in alien. It's not like we had a tourguide."
"Could I persuade you to go over there with me again?"
"Me? Hell no. I'm not setting foot on that ship again. Gives me the creeps."
    Nemesis Zero enjoyed his triumph.

BadKarma was busy at an auxiliary terminal in the cargo section of the ship, hoping not to be found. After all, who could he trust? He didn't hear the gunshot, and didn't notice the impact, but suddenly there was blood on his hands and his legs were getting wobbly. BadKarma remained standing long enough for Snidely to put the muzzle to his temple and squeeze the trigger again.

It is now day four, post away!

im lost was sitting with headphones on, silently bobbing his head.
"Hey, how 'bout letting us listen as well?" Mantrid reached over and unplugged the headphones from the music player, then flinched as sound blared from the speakers. Hellfire3k jumped up and cracked his head on the ceiling, but was on the volume control in an instant and turned it down. He slumped back onto his mattress and growled: "Why don't you just tell the entire ship where we are? I thought the purpose of this place was to stay out of sight."
Mantrid made a casual wave indicating the mattresses. "With all this padding, I don't think we need to worry. Hand me another bottle if you would be so kind."
im lost grabbed three from the bag and threw one to Hellfire3k and Mantrid each before speaking: "So, has any of you got an idea how we'll work this situation out?"
Mantrid considered for a moment. "Well, we could just stay here while the others kill each other. Not exactly the best solution, but at least we survive. We then simply pick off who's left standing."
"Yeah, but by then the formtakers might outnumber us," im lost objected. But Hellfire3k had an answer ready: "That's what we've got the guns for."

"Oh c'mon Snidely. We've got to act. So far we've only been reacting, and look what good that has done us. We need to get on top of this case before it's too late, and that ship holds the answers we so desperately seek."
Sky had been trying to convince Snidely for half an hour now, but had made little progress.
"That ship holds nothing but death. I'm certain that the crew of that ship is who's causing this entire situation, and who knows how many of them are still aboard it? If you want to go to your certain doom, be my guest. I'll help you suit up if you want to. But I'm staying here."
Sky sighed. "Do you know where I can find im lost or Hellfire3k then? There were over there with you as well."
"Don't have the faintest idea. If I see them, I'll tell 'em you're looking for 'em though."

Nemesis Zero was in the machine room together with Cold NiTe and brute force. Together, they were trying to convince Swiftspear and Pulse to start up the FTL drive.
"I'm telling you, if we have any chance of getting out of this alive, it lies in flying to Barnard's Star," said Nemesis Zero.
"And I am inclined to agree with Pulse: I'm not prepared to take a side in your power play with Sky. I'm not saying that we should necessarily go aboard that ship, but I don't really think we have a chance to reach Barnard's Star in time either."
Pulse was in the back of the machine room, trying to look busy but obviously listening to the conversation. Swiftspear continued: "And I don't like the fact that you show up here with an armed escort. You look like a military officer ordering an underling around. You do not outrank me, so stop trying to appear as if you do. Now unless you're going to make yourself useful, get out of my machine room."

"Looks like Hellfire3k was right. I don't think we're getting this up and running again."
TheMuffinMan stood back and admired his handiwork - except he didn't find much to admire. The gravitational core was still running at half capacity, and he couldn't get the other half up and running again. He had enlisted the aid of Talesin, but he was even less experienced than TheMuffinMan as far as the gravitational core went. Without Freak83, they didn't recon they had a shot at getting the core repaired, and Freak83 was about as dead as they came.
"Don't worry. At 0.4G, it'll take quite a while for our muscles to deteriorate. We'll either have killed the formtakers by then or we'll all be dead."
"Inspiring words, Talesin. I see you took motivation classes at the academy."
"Thank you for the compliment," said Talesin without the slightest hint of sarcasm.

im lost was getting very tired of having to do a footmarch every time nature called, but there was nothing for it. As he approached the maintenance shaft, however, he thought that he heard a noise and saw a shadow out of the corner of his eye. Rather than give away their hiding place, he walked past it and continued down the corridor, eventually finding himself in the cavernous cargo bay. The various autonomous and half-autonomous mining machines looked like the shadows of prehistoric dinosaurs leaping at him. 'Nothing to be afraid of,' he told himself as he made his way past the equipment. He was planning on taking a detour around the ship and coming back later, but at the same time he really just wanted to hurry back to the cozy little hideout. A sudden noise made him whirl around, but there was nothing there. The fear was getting to him, now he was hearing strange things. More relaxed, he turned around again to continue his walk, but instead he saw directly into a pair of purple eyes. They seemed to look at him in a curious sort of way, but that was all he had time to register as a makeshift spear fashioned from a long iron rod was plunged into his chest. His scream came out as a mere gurgle, and im lost fell to the floor.

    Okay...

I'm going to vote for Swiftspear.

    1) By his own admission, he's been less active this game. That means he fits into my former list of suspects.

    2) His vote for I'm Lost was odd.

I certainly don't remember to go back and check player activity as you do. And your IRC logs were useful too. However you are certainly going over things with a fine tooth comb I must say.

QUOTE (Swiftspear)

Exactly, it's the perfect phasad. Ok, I'm really not convinced that my vote is right here, but this whole loghunting thing just had me kindof suspicious. If you really aren't a wolf keep doing it, but it is just something you never did in the past games, at least to the same degree, and I really don't want to let you slip through my defences simply because we were buddies in the past games. I knowticed a noteable difference in your playing style, and I called you on it, no hard feelings...

For the moment my vote will stay, but that is pretty much because I am insanely lost in this game (OLO IRONY!) and I have only been able to form the vaugest suspicions of who I belive is or isn't a wolf. If anyone has any thoughts I am more then willing to listen.

On the one hand, he accuses I'm Lost of taking too much time going through the logs, and playing detective. On the other, he says I'm Lost isn't that active. That seems oddly inconsistent.

This might also help explain I'm Lost's death...along with this little snippet.

QUOTE (Swiftspear)

Lost and karma have the same ammount of games under thier belt as I do as well... Although that may not be common knowledge. However, I really don't feel that the wolfs are specifically targeting experianced players. I may be a target for other reasons, but I really doubt it, because so far I have just been really out of the loop in this game. I don't have anywhere near as many contacts as I did in TWG2.

Really this is all kind of irrellevent anyways, because if the wolfs choose to kill me tonight I don't really have anything I could release in a will that would do much harm to them anyways. The only person this discussion might be helping is either the wolfs or the gaurdian, who we aren't even positive is still alive at this point. I think we should keep our anylasis of game mechanics between PMs and small group conversations, the last thing I want is for one of our human players to throw down thier hand in public. The wolfs hold all the aces in this game.

That being said, I agree with snidely, and am voting for Bad Karma. You seem really unactive, and alot less abrasive then you were in past TWG. I can't help but feel like you are avoiding the lime light for some reason. Your game is NOT AT ALL remenicent of TWG1, but VERY remenicent of TWG2, and IIRC you were a wolf in TWG2. I don't know much about this game right now, but I can't shake the feeling you are playing more of a role this game then I am.

Two more experienced players down the drain in a short amount of time. Hmm.

    3) It makes sense for wolves to wipe out the experienced players first. And yet, Swift is still here.

Any of these things by themselves would probably be innocuous on their own. Together, though...

Oh, God, that is a horribly phrased sentence.
