/me counts the seconds before Allurhive starts his ipod bashing.

Edit: Okay, that was somewhat.. spamish.
anyway, Ipods are okay, I know a couple people who are quite happy with them, though I don't think I'd buy one over my current mp3CD player.
or buy one at all for that fact.

First and only warning to posters below: iPod hacking to add custom features (such as making it run Linux, if you're really into that sort of thing) is fine by me. At least I think such a mod is legal, though it's likely to void your warranty.

But discussing anything illegal, such as avoiding copy protection, <i>will</i> be considered punishable here.

What do you expect to do? Make it play useful file types?

Here's a nifty 2 step hack to make the iPod mini better in every way.

1)Go out and buy a different mp3 player.
2)throw your iPod mini into a brick wall.

Yeah, dude. It could be alot things.

    Consider this:

Before a electronic musician releases any music, he listens to his final product through at least three different ways. If you got three different headphones, I bet the same song would sound different through each pair.

$300 for an 6 gb iPod? to me that seems too much seeing how its made by apple and u could get one like <a href='http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=dj30&s=bsd' target='_blank'>this</a>for the same price with 5 times more space.

Between Style, ease, and what not the 250 for my iPod was a great deal. Ill never use more than 6 gigs, ive already got the storage i need between my 3 Hardrives 3 gmail accounts and 200+ empty CD's. I paid 300 for a lot of extra stuff that i wanted.

Anyway, i googled some ipod sites, if u want me to share.

    ipodhacks.com
    ipodlounge.com
    everythingipod.com

Those i think are the best.

May I note that even though I don't own a iPod, I think you are downright stupid for just having this blind, not factually given reason for hating them, and insist on saying you are right in every single thread that they even come up in? I mean, iShirt was pretty funny(and stupid), but coming into a pro-iPod thread and bashing it is equatable to someone coming onto these forums and saying "Stupid n***** you like coputer gaems? ololo stupid aliems"

On topic: iPods = teh sex in looks. I could see why things instantly sound better too, being you just spent plenty of money on it. Like how I was really into Brothers in Arms, but now I'm not into it as much as I was when I had it new. Ohwell.

Like your "Lower Quality" argument, that actually turned out to just be the headphones they give you(which anyone with half an ounce of care knows to always use your own), but the iPod itself had very high quality. And bad interface, which most of us thought was a great one, but you thought was "confusing"? What were your other points?

Well if you really want it to sound better you can get a portable AMP and better headphones. If you need isolation, I'd suggest Shure or Ety.

While we're discussing prices, I'd like to mention I got my Zen Touch for $200, which is 20GB. I have a pair of Shure E3c's to go with my Zen Touch.

The quality of the iPod even with comperable earphones is not as good as the Rio Karma, I can tell you from having heard both. And I never ever said that the interface was "confusing." It is simply lacking in navigational features compared to such MP3 players as the Creative Nomad series (especially the Xtra). It also costs about a zillion dollars, its case is counter-intuitively designed so as to llow you to use the device while in the case (although this may have changed in the latest gen versions, I havn't checked). It has up until the latest version had an absolutely pitiful battery and even the newest has slightly less playback time than most MP3 players did a year ago. There is no volume button on the device. It does not support ogg vorbis.

There's a couple reasons for you.

I'm pretty sure you just change the volume by cycling around the touchpad thingy, without pressing the middle button (which makes you cycle through the list of songs instead).

Anyway, I don't buy things whose battery lasts only 18 months and is irreplaceably expensive.

My MP3 player (convienently enough, also .wma player) is 4 years old and cost $50 at time of purchase. I can cycle out songs when ever I want and I can change batteries on the fly (before some **** batteries from this **** university split open inside it...now it takes so rubbing and manuevering to get the current to travel). I can hold ~20 songs of 128kbps quality, which is more than you should need for any activity <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

i'm sorry, but ipods are so ridiculously overpriced and lacking in features i really dont know why anyone would have one, except maybe as a fashion accessory... they even suck as that, because every idiot has one. they are neither unique, functional or practical... so why would you own one?

I've had both the Zen Xtra and the iPod Mini, and given the choice I'd rather have the mini ANY DAY. Yes, it has far less memory and the battery life isn't that great, but the navigation is fine, the scrollwheel feels nice, yadda yadda... I'm with Quau. Yes, we KNOW you hate iPod for whatever reason, but do you REALLY have to come into every iPod thread and go "Lollol u r teh stupidz, sell ur ipod ftw!!1"? The guy's already bought it, doesn't seem to have a problem with it, and he's asking for help modding it, not asking for you to insult his purchase. A great deal of people do not agree with you that iPod is not worth the money. LIVE WITH IT.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Anyway, I don't buy things whose battery lasts only 18 months and is irreplaceably expensive.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Actually, that really depends on how you use it (ie, do you constantly shuffle, play it at loud volume, go through the entire hd...) and the eventual decay and death of the battery is something that will happen to any battery of that sort (including the Zen's). It's just harder to replace on an iPod. Also, you can replace the battery yourself for cheaper than Apple offers (with a better battery this time).

I don't own an iPod (I plan on doing so some day because of my 100+ songs from iTunes), but I have used the interface. It took me only a few minutes to understand the interface, and I thought it was pretty good, actually. Click the middle, swirl the finger around the circle... It's not that difficult, folks.

I've got one of the early 10gb iPods and I love it. It does everything it can do, extremely well. It's got a great interface, good sound quality, and great battery life, even after owning it for 2+ years (it still works with no problems even after I've dropped it 100 times). It was a present, so I don't really care about the cost.

I don't really see the complaints about it, other than the cost and the lack of FM. The interface is infinitely better than my old 64mb Rio, my Rio MP3CD player, and my dad's iRiver and iaudio. The sound quality is excellent for something that small, although other players may have better sound quality. Plus, it works with iTunes, which is better than any other software that I've seen for handling MP3s.
