I've tried shareaza, and quite frankly I think limewire is a much better option. The speeds I get with limewire just blow Shareaza out of the water.

Where do I get LimeWire from?

I am very, VERY angsty when it comes to dl'ing a service... I want it DIRECT without extra "spam"ons

The only 'spam' I've ever seen is it's "offer" to upgrade to the PRO version.

Not to mention the spyware that limewire is combined with.

All of the P2P have spyware, but most of it is harmless and ad-aware and MSN spyware remover does wonders. Spybot help prevent it from changing the registry as well.

How much faster are we talking here. I'm a huge shareaza fan but if I can get better I'll take it. I just want second opinions.

I happen to like Shareaza, it handles all of my downloads (P2P, BitTorrent, HTTP) with no spyware... The only problem I have is that sometimes I can't connect to Gnutella 1, which seems to be the most popular one. Whenever I do connect to Gnutella 1, though, my speeds are fine.

I'll have to say Emule is the best P2P program. Limewire feels slow to me, and this is much faster.

    - more files
    - faster speeds
    - more customizability
    - IRC included
    - NO SPYWARE

Limewire is mostly only slow to me as a program (probably since it's java based?) Otherwise it gives me the best download speeds anyway.

I spent $20 on EtomiPro, and with access to 5 major networks (including emule and edonkey) it seems to be the best I've come across yet. Oh yeah, that access is PRIVILEGED, meaning I get first dibs on files I want. I have had one or two problems with the program and one of my ethernet drivers getting into a little spat and getting a BSOD, but I've found a work around for it, so no biggy.

The best thing about Shareaza is that I can find a lot of really obscure stuff. The speeds do suck, however, but I think that's just because the edonkey network has queue lengths literally 100x as long as G2.

    Who else here use Emule?
  • DaedalusDaedalus Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15152Members
Yes, I use eMule and swear by it. You can find almost anything you need and the speeds are quite good. You do have to spend some time uploading to improve your credit ratio but it's all in good fun. If your upload data isn't counted towards any sort of quota then go for it. It's brilliant.

At the moment I'm using Ares. That's pretty good.

DC++ is the best client. You want proper realases with sfv-checksums and .nfo-files, dont you?!
