    I think the BUS is a system thats similar to steam but only applies for ns so in future we would need to start up steam so we can start up bus so we can play ns and it kinda dosent rule.

    That would be great, if they could shed steam completely and have NS stand alone would be better - One giant step for mods! =]

    Dont see how, there are ways arround the legality - for instance use of the engine itself is free, but use of the media contained in half-life (not that within the SDK) would not be tollerated outside steam, it would mean redoing the steam integrated stuff, but I dunno the full US law, only that places in europe can avoid such laws completely.

    **Edit** for clarification - the entire quake engine is free, I could take that engine, make a game and release it for download as my product (with a little "thanks ID" on an intro screen). However, if I used a sound file from quake, I would HAVE to release it as a quake mod, I could not take that sound file and use it in my stand alone game.
