Or did he go back and finish later? Though if he did that AFTER he got his business to where it is, then it really doesn't count.

you're in for a long wait. you'll find billy will have some devious plan to thwart any progress in this matter. he didn't become the world's richest man by allowing competition to thrive. you gotta admit he sucessfully built up the world's richest company from a penniless nerd in only a few decades, and that is quite an accomplishment. sure, he did it through evil practices, but everyone who hates him is only jealous. i bet we all wish we were billy gates, knight commander, evil genius extraordinaire. i know i do.

I'm not. I mean, what the hell would anyone do with that kind of money anyways? I'm surprised people that rich don't go mad...

Anyways, not only has Billy boy and MS done everything it legally can to destroy competition (rather than actually compete), it has done a lot of illegal stuff as well. But really, how could they not? The ammount of profit earned via illegal ractices so outweighs the ammount they end up paying as "punishment" its rediculous.

BTW,

Has already happened. Several years ago in fact. What you seem to be wanting is that Linux can play native Win32 games at the same speed as windows, which is practically impossible. It'd be like trying to play a dreamcast game on a dreamcast emulator running on a dreamcast and expecting full speed. Not that linux doesn't have significant problems in alot of areas (3rd party driver support, ease of application installation, ease of configuration, general inter-dependancy bloat, ect). Remember, MS helped kill off alot of OSs with real potential: BeOS and OS/2 come to mind.

I've been told he's getting the knightinghoodnessthingy due to charity work, so it's fair enough really. He could do so much more though, I'd quite honestly donate most of my billions if I had them...you just don't need that much money. He must be at the point where he finds it hard to blow a lot of cash.

Lord Gates isn't eligible for a Knighthood. He can, however be ordered with an Order of the British Empire (OBE). The OBE is the highest honour that a non-English citizen can be ordained with.

For all you lot out there, bitching about how Gates sucks this, and tosses off that, think about this...

If He wasn't here, who would we be bitching about instead? Linux would have probably gone retail, and Apple would be the biggest player in the OS market.

Or Xerox...

We'd probably still be bitching about IBM. IBM was the big bad corporation before MS beat them at their own game.
• Lt_PatchLt_Patch Join Date: 2005-02-07 Member: 40286Members
Exactly. Although I think that Big Blue would be even bigger than Microsoft are, if they have gotten someone with the idea for an OS.

Bill Gates is the Carnegie of our time.

Ruthless capitalist, generous donator.

Don't forget that when Gates dies, his will specifies for 90% of his wealth to be donated to charity, I think he wants to die richest man in the world or something.

No, people b**** about Gates because he's rich and has a product that is very user friendly and runs games.

Microsoft can't afford to stifle competition, they'd get broken up that way, and nearly did. But here's the thing: Everything he's done is completely legal. It might be shady, but it's still within the confines of the law.

Besides, in the business world, it's all about survival of the fittest. And that's exactly what he did.

People just need stuff to complain about, really. Well, most weak-minded naïve people, that is.

Someone sure is anal about wording, I sincerely apologize.

He never FINISHED college. In my book, you may as well never have went if you didn't finish.

Only, nobody gives a damn that hes rich, and the "user friendly-ness" of his operating system was ripped off from Apple (who, admittedly, stole it from xerox). And pretty much all OSs run games. Windows has the most games made for it because most PCs in the world are runnning it. I mean, its not like games don't get made for Linux and MacOSX (UT2k4, DooM3, Wolfenstein & ET, Neverwinter Nights, ect.)

Please.....

I mean whether you like it or not or good friend Bill made computers accessible.

No-one can deny that if it wasn't for MS we would still probably be messing around with about 5 different operating systems.

Oh that and HL2 would probably look like Quake or something. And about 5 people would be able to play it.

On what do you base this? Apple was the first company to make computers accessable, as evidenced by the release of the original Macintosh. For kicks, compare MacOS System 1 (1984) to Windows 1.01 (1985). Apple continued to dominate Microsoft in this area for about a decade.

Hell dude, we mess around with more than 5 OSs now. Alot more in fact. If you meant to imply that no one OS would be significantly dominating the home computing environment, you're still probably wrong. I thnik Apple or Be would have taken that position.

Again, you base this on what? Did MS invent 3d accelerated graphics cards or something?

That's total nonsense. You're saying that if we didn't have the current "evil empire" company then another company would definately have filled its place, regardless of the fact that not every company follow such aggressive and underhanded business practices. There doesn't always have to be a monopoly.

Besides, "Linux" has already gone retail and out the other side, apparently.

back on the subject on little Bill being knighted it is only an honorary knighting. This means "Sir" doesnot apply to him. He could only be called "sir" if he was a British citizen, or part of the commenwealth.
