To show a project
Aight, anyone in the mapping forum knows- tomororw, I'm heading out with my PC to the Pennsylvania State Computer Expo to show my project in the Arts and Crafts division. Now, I have hit a wall- I most likely will NOT have an accessible internet connection (DAMNIT)

So, I need to know what I must do to prepare STEAM and NS to run (A SINLGE PERSON) in a LAN style setup- I know its' possible to play NS over a LAN, but I don't know how to set it up to work

Help plz! I got till tonight, then I'm supposed to prepare my computer to be moved (aka, packing it away in it's cases)

Normally, the only way a round will start is if you use certain cheats/console commands, or if there are players on both teams. To this end, I suggest you either look up the console commands by searching the forums, or use one of the available bots.

I mean how do I start steam without an internet connection to sign into my account? There IS a way right? Like an offline mode?

IIRC you just need to have the "remember my login info" box checked to play offline.

For starters, make sure "don't save account information on this computer" is UNCHECKED in the settings. Just like the warning below it says, it's meant for computers used by more people than yourself, but disables offline mode.

After that, sign out, and get offline. Unplug the network/phone cable from the wall if you need to do that to make sure. It should go into offline mode on its own. At least that's what happened to me last time there was absolutely no internet connection available.
Didn't try NS at the time though, so if there's some caveat I'm unaware of, people had better speak up

yeah, if you let steam keep your settings, then you can run ns just fine in offline mode. just create a server instead of searching for one and there ya go

Does this work even if you close Steam (by shutting off the computer, for example)?

    Yes it should work.

OK, connect to the internet, make sure you have all Steam updates....
Make sure it saves steam user info, password etc.

Close Steam. Open regedit, and go to the following key:

    HKEY_Current_User\Software\Valve\Steam

Change the following keys to 1:

    Offline
    OfflineAFS

Disconnect Internet and test it. You should get a retry connection/Use Offline Mode

    There ya go.

Exactly. For me, I have a laptop and desktop, and although I set them in the options, they wouldn't work. I changed them in the registry, and viola.
