It did- whenever the stargate locked in a symbol, the lil trapazoid would pop open, and a red light was visible

To the rest- STOP being complete assshats PLEASE- GiGaByTe may not have released his OWN map yet, but he has helped others (myself included) in troubleshooting their maps! Insperation is a problem, yes, but his talent cannot be denied. I know many times I could not, for the LIFE of me, after a 3 hour search find the ONE leak that was causing my problems- within about 30 minutes he'd have it 0o' and normaly it was one of those 1 unit things that you can't see unless you use a bloody MICROSCOPE XD

the gateroom architecture is done, not the texturing fooels. im trying to reduce the w_polys in the gateroom. they are higher than looking all the way across the map on suddendrop. around 860. the gate itself is about 600 polys, even optimized with null textures on the hidden surfaces. thats why i left it like that. the picture of the gate is with the iris closed, not open. if i stop getting flamed by complete idiots that cant see a good playable map if it hit them square in the face.

when i make maps, i also dont have the patience to make a map with astounding detail. i also dont care if a map looks something like that one guy made that looked like it was from ut2k4 or if its one giant box with walls. if it plays good, i like it. but thats my opinion.

if you dont like it, i could care less. so mendasp, spacer and all of the other fools that flame anything they dont like, i could care less and you will be ignored.

Go ahead and ignore people who don't like your work. You'll never become a better mapper, but hey, you never were much in the first place. Seriously though, you have to listen to people to improve your mapping. While I agree that most of the posts in this thread so far are pretty crappy and flaming/flamebait, you have to realize that these people spend alot of time and effort to create maps worthy of these forums. When a map like this comes along, it just shows how little effort you spent on it, and you're definately not going to get good comments about it no matter how well it plays, because <b>you didn't spend enough effort into this map</b>. Ask for constructive critiscism the next time someone flames your map instead of flaming them back. It's the only way to improve.

    Anyway... er... nice boxes.

The mapping forum is for map feedback.

If you only want nice positive feedback, go and post in the 'only nice positive feedback allowed for any and all maps' forum.

Everyone starts off crap at mapping, the only way people improve is by listening to the (sometimes harsh) feedback of more experienced mappers.

So you want to make a stargate map huh?
Basically, I have no problem with that, and the general idea of making a stargate map isn't that bad either, but there are some small things which you might think of concerning a stargate map. or basically... any funmap.

Have you checked how many stargate maps there are? I don't exactly know, but there are some. And every of them comes down to the same thing. One stargate, a couple of resnodes, one alternative way, and.. uhm.. yeah and the obligatory "it's a funmap so I don't have to take care of look".
Conclusion: there are stargate maps out there, and all of them are more or less equal.

So you want to make a stargate map, and want people to play them? Well if you are going to make the stargate maps the same way, they all are map, but with the shown "quality" of texture, you will most likely fail. If all maps are the same, the players usually stick to the one they know, not caring about new stuff.

But how do I get people to play the map? Well.. you need to give them something special. Like great texturing, atmosphere, or.. simply something special. And if you offer something really special, you can allow to say, okay, it's a funmap, I don't care for the design at first.
Let's take Hibame as an example. Hibame made lots of maps which go under the category "funmap". All of his funmaps are special. Each of it has a unique gameplay, and these alternative gamemodes make them funny. And if a map is really funny, I don't care for the design that much. And I mean really funny. The same gamemode which has been mapped a dozen times isn't special or funny anymore.

And this leads us to the question: What makes your stargate map special?
Personally I have seen nothing which makes it special, yet.
But what could make a stargate map special? well how about a real stargate network with selectable exit points, working like a real stargate etc. Now that would be something awsome. And in that case I would absolutely have no problem with seeing it posted here on the forum. Because then I really would be interested in it in two ways: a) as a player. I would love to try it out, and b) as a mapper. Because I would be interested in how you made it working.

But what you have posted so far is nothing which comes close to that. So you might be better of with posting about your map if you have something better to show. Because what you have shown so far is a blocky room with horrid texturing and a stargate in the middle. good job.
Maybe it's a bit early to go for critics since you just started with that map. But then again, if you post something, you want to get a response to that. And then again, if you post something which is nothing close to the general standard, then you can also expect harsh critic. Especially when you try to make excuses like <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->i just dont feel like dedicating 6 months to a year to make 1 map.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

its sad but thats exactly why the term "custom map" has such a bad meaning in most players minds. and really good maps never get played...

Quite sad. You know, if that gate is such a restriction try a modle

Because the rest of that room looks like crap in a can, and it's been there for a while, and really smells, because it's been left in the sun for a few weeks.
