Ipods....

Just wanna smack these tards in the face
I live in a somewhat preppy/spoiled district (I refuse to call them counties) and it seems that everybody has a goddamned iPod. Well, not everybody, but I usually see an iPod or an iPod mini per 6 people, that's insane.
The damn things are overpriced and underpowered, yet so many people insist on buying them. Plus look at them! Look at what you have to do to get them to work? You have to freaking caress the damn thing for it to shuffle through your lists. I don't want to feel up my damn machines to get them to work. Yeah, and I can't stress the price enough, expensive.
The Creative Zen series is a very well crafted competitor to the iPod, yet only ONE of my friends has it. It has a longer battery life, more space per buck, and the battery is replaceable, unlike the iPod's, not to mention better sound quality (though that's more subjective than objective).
From a cynic's point of view, is it just because these preppies have too much money on their hands? I think so. I don't even listen to music that much, and what I do listen to is classical, so I guess I'm out of date. Music folder doesn't exceed 256 megabytes of storage, anyways.
What do you guys think? Am I too unfair to the iPod? Am I right (damn right I am)? Or is there some middle ground?

I don't know how iPods sell, they're so friggin expensive for what they do it blows my mind. Plus they feel terrible in your hand and are ugly. Unlike my wonderful Rio Karma.
it's like a portable winamp, how is that not awesome? sure, the cost could be high, but isn't it worth it?
btw, zig, no wonder the battery doesn't run out, you have to USE the ipod, not tell it to run out. (;
Except winamp can play more than 2 file types.

So can the iPod, when it comes to the new minis.
And frankly, I don't think you guys have heard out of the newer iPods- super high sound quality from those little earbuds. Surprisingly good. Not that I'm getting one: I'd rather have the PSP when it comes out.
Anyway, why do people buy iPods? Simple: Apple got in early, marketed the hell out of it, and now has the brand recognition advantage.

My bad, 3. 2 of which noone uses. AAC? Who uses that?

People who buy their music from the iTunes Music Store instead of stealing it. And its the default CD-Rip option for iTunes as well.

I don't know about you, but I've heard of plenty of types.
.wav
.mp3
That one that the HL2 soundtrack uses.
.ogg
.aif
.midi
Thats most of the music out there. I don't know about you, but if I'm gonna support something, I'm not gonna go support some obscure unused nigerian file type
And I know for a fact that the Rio Karma is the only player that supports Ogg Vorbis as of the time I bought it.
And remember, I've *personally* listened to the .ogg off of my friend's iPod, of some metal band that was decent(imo). And I doubt this idiot got his modded.
/me feels up AllUrHiveRblong2us's machine
I'm sorry but you must be mistaken.

Nowhere does it say ogg.
No, not suckers. People who buy music from the iTunes Music Store. We established this.

It's common knownledge that those two are synonyms.
Hmm. The Google search appears to show that iPods don't support Ogg Vorbis sound files.
Perhaps you need to find new people from which you glean this supposed "common knowledge", because you're quite mistaken.
Have you ever purchased a song from the iTunes Music Store? When looking for a one-hit wonder, would you prefer purchasing a song for $.99 (which can be burned to a CD), or purchase the entire CD for $10.00, filled with nine other songs you don't want?
1)since when are cds 10 bucks?
2)actually, I would prefer the illegal option for that particular song, but that's just me.

1. They're as cheap as $10.00 in my area. However, those are often the older, less wanted CDs. Most of the time they're $14.00. However, I don't see how that makes my point any less valid - in fact, it enforces it.
2. Oh, you're a loser. I didn't realize. Well, thanks for letting me know you're a worthless thief. Scum of society. Pathetic individual. Bottom feeding... bah, I'm out of insults. I figured you were a thief, because you were only seemed to be spouting what others told you, that you had yet to actually try out the iTunes Music Store, because you instead fed off the success of other individuals. I'm always disappointed to be proven right in this area.

What did I actually say about iTunes that I would need to have used it to know?
You can go ahead and pay for the CEO of Warner Borthers' new ivory back scratcher, I for one won't. I'd rather support artists, not executives. And you, for supporting said execs, are contributing to an immoral corprate construct that exploits, uses, and generally takes advantage of artists. And you call me scum.

Oh brother do I know how you feel. Everywhere I turn on my damned campus, someone is taking one of these things out. It's just so, so iconic. I mean, half of them don't even get it because they want an MP3 player, they get it because it's an iPod. Though I hate this thing, and the fanatics it has spawned, you have to hand it to Apple, for their marketing and design departments ability to seduce the technologically ignorant and affluent in this country.
