DUE TO UNFORSEEN/POOPY CIRCUMSTANCES, I will be getting rid of the evo. I need to scale down financially, so I'm currently looking at a 95 240sx SE, with a built KA24DET. That should be fun... 240sx has always appealed to me as a project :]
Paranoia, I PM'd you as I want your opinion on the car I'm lookin at <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />

Depends who you get it from and the size of your tires. So from 25 per to 125 haha.
Hard or Soft? I'd say harder because it might not heat up as much, but don't take my word on this one.
How long they last? Depends on how hard you push them.

Most of the drift guys I know from the crest end up doing regular 'junk tire' runs.. have a group of local tire shops that are more than happy to give away their stacks of dead/nearly bald tires for the price of mounting and balancing them on a rim for you... about five bucks a tire, in most cases. There's some tread left, and the guys up there tend to just swap on a mismatched (to the front) junk set when they're just messing around or practicing. Usually do the junk runs every week or three. When they're done, swap back to their DD wheels on the rear for the drive home, the formerly almost-dead tires all the way down to the belts, and destined for the final junkheap when a new set of junkers go onto the rims.
Furnace, most of the serious folks never go up during the day except to cruise and get a better feel for the turns. Too many minivans and slow drivers during daylight hours... even if it can be fun to tailgate a sportbike after Big Tujunga, when the road turns crappy again. Fri/Sat nights tend to be the most popular, given that any police normally up there have better places to be down in the valley with parties to break up, drunk drivers to tag, and other usual enforcement and ticket-quota-filling tasks.
Also, I won't be up there for a little while, as it seems that my fuel pump is dying, and I don't have the money to buy a new Walbro at the moment. Also, I need to get the new 'big brakes' on ASAP, as during a downhill on my last run up there, I brake-faded entirely.. took a turn WAY too hot, but managed to pull it off without taking the 15-second route to the bottom.
As far as tire compound, do your research. Most street radials grip worse as they heat (avoid the waterbox/burnout at the track for maximum grip), but a few will gain quite a bit. Softer rubber does not last anywhere near as long as stiffer stuff, but if you have the money to blow on sets then soft rubber with a good heat index will give you maximum overall control. My Eagles were total e-ticket rides, but only lasted a month.. and at a thousand bucks a set, I had to go with some cheapos for the time being, which have lasted me a LONG while, even if the shoulderblocks are completely gone at this point.

Still haven't decided what car I'm going with. I don't really want to drive a modded '95 Zenki in CA for fear of getting impounded or otherwise looked at wrong by Johnny Law..
I kind of want to restore my friend's '73 240Z with an LSx..

lol, I think cops don't really pull over the classics as often... they pull over crazy lookin ricer kids that sound and smell like sh*t <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> I mean, I'm not talking about while driving like a d*ck.
I dunno..it's just so tough to budget like 15k without knowing when I'll get it running, or how well it might or might not go.
id go for the Z but the 240z is one of those uber cars on my list of possible dreams car that i might be able to afford... along with a old school 911 and a FD rx-7... my mr2 was on that list also but i managed to get that one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Tomorrow i'll be going to the Toyota car lot to try an attempt to get myself out of some debt and trade in my 2 cars for a Prius Hybrid. Should save me some major green in my pocket as i drive around 150 miles a day.

I would consider learning to ride a motorcycle, so maybe you can ACTUALLY get that 40mpg+ instead of the advertised BS from Toyota, huh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

And with a Prius, you never get that same satisfaction getting home after riding a bike because you lived for another day! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Dammit, should have given me a call, Chrono! :b
Prius are BS. Long-term financial and environmental impact, they're almost as bad as a truck, overall. Just another yuppie status car, driven to say 'I care about the environment!' like another mindless sheep, without ever actually researching it. I mean, hell. There's NO other reason to drive a Prius, they're absolute crap cars! If they wanted to care about the damn environment, they'd be driving a Geo Metro. Great mileage, no power, plenty of cargo space.
Still trying to find some cheap rotors to do the caliper swap, and tracking down the cause of a stupid check engine light that shouldn't even be there.
And yes, that 240z is downright sexy. Love how those look with the headlight covers, when they're in good shape like that one. Especially the dark blue and black, or dark blue and white look.

I'll let you know. I'll more than likely buy it and sell it for a little bit higher price. I'll start low for like 2-3k.
I'll make sure everything is right first before selling though, if able.

Don't forget to check your fuel pressure after the install. If the wally overruns your stock fuel pressure regulator, you'll need an AFPR, and those can get pricey ($200+ for one that doesn't suck). At that point, welcome to smognazi hell, too. And make sure the pump's getting 14V... what they're designed to run at. And if it's not already in, make sure you get the install kit for your car, or you might have a hell of a time getting it in and working.. Walbros don't exactly just bolt down like Densos.

Lets see if I can install this damn thing, anybody willing to help? (looks at Talesin) hehe
Talensin, I might be hitting up a pick-a-part (Pap) soon..want anything? lol
Got a new Griffin Radiator, plugged that bad boy in and it runs nicely. I think I need to bleed it out a bit more, but other than that, nice!
Now i'm going to hit up Home Depot to find a proper drain plug for the rad. Not sure how long a rubber cork with a nail up it will last for.
I kind of want to restore my friend's '73 240Z with an LSx..

Private Seller.
Owns 3-4 Zs.
Selling me a:
73 Datsun 240z
Great Condition
Running
16k miles
1,000$$$
=)
I'd so make it a drift track car or alternate between the S14 and the 240z. lol
Wonder how much insurance would go for on a car like that?
