To go back to the whole "demo" thing, it would be quicker to download some short video clips as opposed to trawl a stack of servers and hope they're full of regs in order to give a fair view of the action.

In addition, it would show a bit of wit on the side of the server owners. Making a quick demo indicates a willingness for new regular players, which is usually a good sign.

Well, the issue with that suggestion is server load. In the future, if the NS dev team takes my idea and implements it into the site, I would like something with MINIMAL server load. Downloading 10-40 meg files of demos is not minimal

One should be able to tell the type of server it is from the innumerable metrics we should have on them.

Yeah, you are missing about 240 countries ;-) Either stick to regions or countries.. If you wish to use countries you would have to add a whole lot of european countries with active servers. Just check the All Seeing Eye!

Yes, true, which regions play together, is what I' m wondering. I mean, no point having say, Morocco if no on from morocco plays NS. But do say, all of western europe play together? Or do say, German players only play on German servers (I imagine not, iirc, most europeans know a whack of languages)?

What is logical and useful boundary set?

Australia, North-America and Europe can be considered the entire NS community. Localized servers will usually be prefered, but European players play on foreign servers on a regular basis, since the small proximity between the EU countries allows for this.

This only involves the central-european region however. Everything away from the center (Spain\Italy\Switzerland\Austria etc), stick to their localized servers, or AFAIK, don't play NS at all.

Small correction then: Australia, North-America and Central-Europe.

whether or not im banned from it.

I seem to be banned from the majority of servers in europe.
Its probably time for a new copy of HL.

I'd like to see not what the primary language is, but information on whether I'm going to get kicked by using phrases like "vis-a-vis" because some jackass admin thinks I'm insulting him in French.

Basically what the laguage 'policy' is. Free-for-all? Text must be in English, mics in any language? French no English? Dutch no Flemmish?

The demo idea is pointless. You can never judge a server by a single game.

Also its funny watching people try to hiijack this thread to cry about being banned from pubs in the past. Get over it already

its the smartest to allow the language of whereever the server is located, and english.

there is a flaw with map rotation.

If u ask why here is your answer!

Quite a few servers are setup to select 5 maps at random and 1 of those is voted to be the next map so a map rotation list would be usless here!

The server could just have a list of all the maps that are on the server. They don't just have to use mapcycle.txt.
