To go back to the whole "demo" thing, it would be quicker to download some short video clips as opposed to trawl a stack of servers and hope they're full of regs in order to give a fair view of the action.
In addition, it would show a bit of wit on the side of the server owners. Making a quick demo indicates a willingness for new regular players, which is usually a good sign.

One should be able to tell the type of server it is from the innumerable metrics we should have on them.

Australia, North-America and Europe can be considered the entire NS community. Localized servers will usually be prefered, but European players play on foreign servers on a regular basis, since the small proximity between the EU countries allows for this.
This only involves the central-european region however. Everything away from the center (Spain\Italy\Switzerland\Austria etc), stick to their localized servers, or AFAIK, don't play NS at all.
Small correction then: Australia, North-America and Central-Europe.
I'd like to see not what the primary language is, but information on whether I'm going to get kicked by using phrases like "vis-a-vis" because some jackass admin thinks I'm insulting him in French.
Basically what the laguage 'policy' is. Free-for-all? Text must be in English, mics in any language? French no English? Dutch no Flemmish? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The demo idea is pointless. You can never judge a server by a single game.
Also its funny watching people try to hiijack this thread to cry about being banned from pubs in the past. Get over it already <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If u ask why here is your answer!
Quite a few servers are setup to select 5 maps at random and 1 of those is voted to be the next map so a map rotation list would be usless here! <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> The server could just have a list of all the maps that are on the server. They don't just have to use mapcycle.txt.

I seem to be banned from the majority of servers in europe.
Its probably time for a new copy of HL.
