What’s Wrong With Me?!

3 nights ago I noticed that my right tricep felt like it was shot up with Novocain or something – it’s just numb and kind of tingly – almost like the feeling your foot is just before it goes to pins and needles when it is waking up.

Look, this little purple man has the same problem as me:

Anyways, is this normal? Maybe I’ve just been at my computer too much recently – it is my mousing arm. Or what else could cause it – a pinched nerve? Do I need to go to the Dr.? How long should I live with a numb arm until I seek help….

I haven’t ‘worked out’ in awhile – the biggest strain probably would be playing tug-o-war with my German Shepherd. I just don’t know

Go see a doctor. If my arm was permenantly numb it wouldn't take me three days to seek (professional) medical help.

Well, you should go see the doctor. Make sure your mouse arm isn't on the mouse too long (Like long periods of times and your hand hasn't moved much). It may not be computer related that caused this though, know any other things that you have been doing that may cause it?

If it's constant numbness then see a doctor right away, it may be nothing but better safe then sorry. If it just comes and goes it probably isn't anything and I wouldn't worry about it unless it either becomes painful or too annoying to ignore.

Not to alarm you, but there is the far off possibility it could be something like a blood clot, so just keep ontop of it.

Is your deodorant giving you a rash? Is there anything on the surface of the skin visible?

Sometimes, this can be caused by the spinal nerves being slightly pressed upon by the spine. Although I seriously doubt you would have that problem, as it's mostly a problem of aging...

Might be a blood clot caused by lack of activity.

    Go to the doctor.

Yeah, see the doctor if part of your body is numb for that long...
    Do you have any armrests?

I asked my co-workers for adivce about it and my boss (whom got me into gaming in the first place) thinks that it is Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) caused from 9+ hours of work at my computer and then whatever timeI spend at night gaming. We decided to give it until monday before talking to the occupational health person here.

No there is no visual rash or bruise or anything. The only changes in my lifestyle have been walking my dog more often and a new keyboard at work - either of those I guess could contribute to rsi - who knows. I'll keep you updated. Another good Link.

it's comforting to know that there is a probable non serious answer to the numbness, see the doctor on monday and tell us what he/she/it says

as with anything, if it persists and or prevents you from completing the daily routine, go get a medical evaluation
